Nauseous after eating 6wks into keto

Hello, I’m a 35yr average build/height woman.

I’ve been doing keto for the past 6wks and have lost 13.5lbs so far. Overall I’ve felt really good, but for the past week I feel nauseous after every meal/snack. I’ve upped my water intake, tried ACV shots, and drinking warm lemon water before eating. Nothing works so far. It’s a crampy, sometime burping, nauseous feeling that last over an hr but is typically gone by the next meal. Advice? Ideas?  I really like this lifestyle and I don’t want to quit!

Sometimes nausea comes with being into ketosis. A lot of that time is bc you body's bicarb is low....generally happens when the level is under 20. They used to have a product called poly citra k crystals then they stopped making it. One of the solutions that has worked well is using baking soda in water to help raise the bicarb. Some say drink more alkaline water....ive found that doesn't work. Try a tsp or 2 of baking soda in water with your nausea.

I experienced this the first couple of weeks. Keto flu symptoms I guess. I knew there would be an adjustment period

  • I encountered this when changing my eating habits from veggies as a "side" dish to veggies as the main course. I began adding 2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar to a 16oz bottle of water a couple times/day, and that really helped. Mostly, i think it's just your body's internal flora adjusting to the new way of eating - more chlorophyll, more fiber, etc., and while disconcerting, it will go away after your body has become accustomed to the keto way of eating.  I hope you feel better :-)

Staying super hydrated, especially during the early days of Keto are important. But remember that water alone isn't enough - you have to keep your electrolytes balanced. Often times you'll feel better by upping your magnesium and sodium. Some people opt for broth or bullion (just be sure it's not loaded with hidden sugar) to get some extra sodium. I know a lot of folks who use "nuun" electrolyte tablets. They aren't carb-free - but they will likely help alleviate the "Keto-flu" symptoms. Hope that helps!!

When this happened to me I was advised to add salt to my diet. It worked immediately. Good luck

    Drink pickle juice.

every so often I feel the same way. It’s not quite Keto flu but your stomach is blahh. I drink pickle juice and it goes away within 5 min.

If it doesn’t I take pepto bismol lol

Casey   I am only one day in but I’ve spent a few days researching do’s & dont’ts. I remember one persons advice to minimize the keto flu was to use Himalayan Pink Salt. A pinch in your water and while cooking. I use it anyway so I will start adding it to my water too.
