Help me setup to know I’m doing things right please.

Hey everyone, I really don’t know if I’m doing things right, but I really need to lose this weight as I morbidly obese. I am currently disabled due to a work injury, not allowed to exercise.  So, Keto is my last hope. So can you please tell me  how to set up my app tracker correctly. I want to be sure I’m doing things right, because I keep getting conflicting numbers between the app and online calculators about how many Fats, Protein, and Carb grams I should intake per day to lose the maximum amount of fat on Keto. So please help.

These are my specs:

Female

47

6’0”

Current weight is, 345 lbs.  I’m looking to eventually get to my goal of 195 lbs it seems so far away but, I need this for myself. I can no longer be disabled, and morbidly obese. One has to go.
TIA for helping me.

Go into settings.  Most of the defaults are pretty good but I recommend using net carbs instead of total carbs.  Once you put your  weight and activity level in the macros will be calculated for you.  I paid for the premium app so there could be some differences in how they work if you don't have the premium.  I wanted all the features because I'm trying to combat diabetes.  Good luck to you!

I agree with fleebite - go with the app.  If nothing else, you have a single source for data.  There’s so much out on the internet that you can drive yourself insane looking at all the ‘right answers’ that don’t stack up with each other.  And I agree - invest in yourself and go for the premium version of the app.  It gives you a LOT of healthy menus and recipes and you can even import recipes from out on the internet (caution: just because a recipe is labeled ‘keto’ don’t assume it is!  The app will ‘grade’ the recipe and let you know so you can decide whether to add it or not.   Last, you have to be - HAVE TO BE - brutally honest with yourself, especially with regards to your level of activity.  The app is only as good as the data you feed it.  Stay away from the ‘keto doughnuts’ and other such teasers that are out there - keep it basic for a while and you’ll see some amazing results.  Try not to ‘cheat’ or ‘take a day off’ as if you fall out of ketosis, it can be daunting to get back in.  You can check your level of ketosis with some ‘pee strips’ (available in most drugstores) and while they’ll give you good info at first, once you really get going, they become less accurate.  So you might consider a home tester to check your blood ketone level (the most accurate way to know)

And give yourself a few weeks to get in to ketosis - it’s not an overnight event.  Your patience will be rewarded.

  • I went from 288 to 258 in 8 weeks without using a tracker. I would guesstimate macros, not count calories, and that was it. Lots of trackers are inadequate and pathetic anyway, like the ~$50 one I spent from Dr. Berg.

I would also stay on one site, this one to do my tracking. Search Youtube for tutorials for CarbManager too. The settings I've stayed with are: 5% carbs, 20% protein and 70% fats and i feel thats a great start for newbies no matter your size. Take tour vitamins and take collagen because this will hep with skin and hair.... people can loss hair for bit with such a drastic change. I was 198 now down to 185 in 2 1/2 weeks. Good luck to you!
