Gaining weight

Hi, I started keto 2 weeks ago. I've been tracking my macros and net carbs consistently. I'm not going over my calories either. My net carbs are below 20g every day. My macros are always within 2%s of 5 carbs, 75 fats, and 20 protein.

My activity level is moderate and I workout 3-5 times a week.

I eat mostly healthy fats (ex virgin olive oil, avocados, salmon, flaxseed) along with butter, bacon, and othet fats.

After the first week I noticed it looks like I've gained weight. Especially in my stomach area. This was disheartening, however I did get my period during week 2 so I was hoping it was just water retension from that.

Now that I'm into week 3 I'm still not seeing any difference. I've tested my ketones and have "low".

Every reason I've read about why I'm not losing weight doesn't fit for me. I'm following everything as I should.

If at the end of this week I'm still not noticing any changes I plan on taking myself off of keto.

I'm looking for any advice as to why I'm gaining weight. I want this to work for me for more than the weight loss benefit but I also don't want tk be gaining weight.

I'm not eating too much protein, carbs are well below 20g a day, and I've had no cheat meals/snacks.

I'm 27, female, 5'6, 165lbs.

Thank you!!

Might be hidden carbs. Also the values shown on packaged food are not 100% accurate. Don't take the values as gospel:

    1. They are allowed to round the values

    2. They are allowed a variance of a few % points on those values

Agreed.  Try using a food scale and tracking only one macro- total carbs.  Eat less than 20 grams total carbs/day. Follow the Dr Westman allowed foods list known as “pg.4”. Google that- it’s everywhere.  Wishing you the best of luck! 👍

  • Sea salt?  2 teaspoons of sodium a day to help get rid of water and relieve keto flu.

  • I heard pictures speak better then a scale. Try taking your measurements and comparing pictures versus checking your weight. Hope this is valuable.

  • I agree with the responses here and I'll add one other. You could be insulin resistant. The belly is a tell tale sign, if you are eating many times a day it could be promting more insulin response to an already overloaded system. And yes go total carbs.
