Finally understanding Leptin & Insulin.

With some much information loading over the last 3 weeks I thought I was getting 'it' but then I found Susan Pearce Thompson's Ph.D. website (all free) and her survey. The result video and 3 further videos have filled me with renewed hope and her Leptin explanation is so brilliantly simple. Had to share hope that's okay.

Adding additional information rather than replying to myself.

The science is amazing, 4 free videos, no snacks,  no sugar, no flour, why we eat like we do but Susan advocates plant & fruit, protein then fat. I think as I progress with keto, I will look for more vegetarian &  vegan proteins without adding carbs i.e. Organic hemp hearts.

Joanna  vegan can have a very difficult time with ketogenic diet if that's what your planning. You have to do a lot of research - more than meat eaters on this lifestyle. I'm reading vegans don't fair well with health, hormones, etc following this. Use caution.

No couldn't go vegan 😱 I love a good variety and not planning to eat a thing before research ~ fruit is firmly on a no list too for now. The key to our meat & fish is organic & line/caught wild.

yah most interesting ! I’m not fully vegan but totally vegie-pesc and the fish does help. Trying to find enough different ways to keep to 12gm. Not always easy ! Will have to look into hemp hearts ! We’re in a moving project for the next 3-4 days so dinners all are out. Eggs for breakfast fine. With cheese.

yatesa12 only week 5 now what is 12gm? Is that your carb aim? Mine is 20g  so 12 sounds so very low to me a mere newbie. All the best with the moving project 💪🏻 My first week I didn't have a drop of energy. 🙇♀️

Joanna  hey thanks ! Well I’m newer than you at 1 week here and was going by the lowest goal they’ve here - ketogenic with 5% carbs at 12 gms. For me wanting to drop 2# per week - ha ha just thought I’d try (!).   Dropping pounds fm BMI 22-23 to 20 has turned out to be quite the project. Have realized the whole energy in/ energy out doesn’t make it happen for me. Liking this a lot and have dropped 2# already first week. Yay ! As a vegie fish eater, I’d love to aim at 20 - have ordered up some ketostix and will use that as a guide. Thinking combining intermittent fasting in days I’m not hungry ( stomach growling hypoglycemic ) might be just the trick. Thanks for chat !

yatesa12 not really a recipe 😂 Fry an onion in fat of your choice, when nicely browning add garlic cloves to your preference (!) brown, add to flaked tuna (I use canned) mix with Keto mayo until it holds together and put spoonfuls into the frying pan, flatten them and fry until deep brown ~ you can add herbs & spices to vary them. Served with fried mushrooms & tomatoes or whatever...... simple, quick & a change from bacon. They are also nice cold with salad.

Joanna  you could coat in a little almond flour 20g = 5g net carbs, useful when my carbs are too low.... <15 I am happiest 18-20 but no longer measure unless it's anything that I am not sure about.

Wow sounds wonderful - I’ll give this a try ! Have to look up keto mayo but all else is the way I cook - ha ha including the recipe - just fine !  Good for you having to “ up “ your carbs 🤣. I’m doing 20 today and find it so much easier. Keto sticks coming and will see them !

yatesa12 I feel sure amongst the heaps I have been reading, that once you are fat adapted and are keeping to 20g net carbs, you may not show any ketones on the urine sticks or a trace at most, not being hungry nor craving is the cheapest way to know you are burning your own fat 🔥
