Alcohol on keto?

I've done keto before but it's been a while.  I occasionally embibe. Is there an alcohol that is keto friendly?

CJ To start ketogenic it’s best to avoid alcohol for a bit if you can because your basically detoxing. I have found the app is a good resource for 0 carb alcohol. Your question is actually kind of loaded, in the way that alcohol is burned up before body fat. Everyone’s metabolism is different. Most rum, vodka, whiskys, are 0 carb but use sparingly. Best to avoid in the beginning and then just use sparingly, it will do your body good.  I can have spiced rum and zero carb mixers on a weekend and still be in ketosis next day, but I typically lower my carbs that day then and have a lot of fats next morning. Some people will say it kicks them out, plus your inhibitions go down and we tend to cheat, while drinking or with the next day. One thing I have noticed is alcohol affects me differently now for sure. One must use caution while overindulging “ while on Keto.

  • Just look up carb content in the drink you like, that is what I do. I think vodka is the lowest but I don't care for it. I love a glass or 2 of wine when we are out, so I just log it and make sure I drink lots of water before and after.

  • I usually drink vodka with soda water and a splash of MIO liquid enhancer. I know vodka is carb free and only 69 calories for each ounce. HTH!

  • So Dr Berg has great advice. Wine has 1-2 g carbs, many liquors have 1-3 carbs. Biggest one to avoid in Beer. If you do drink liquor do it other straight or add water or fresh lemon/lime.
