Ketosis Question

For my particular height, my net carb limit is 20g per day. Does anyone know if you can still be in ketosis if you aren't in your recommended range?

As an aside, I'm not that far out of range. Heighest I've been out of range is roughly 10g.

  • Yes, some people eat up to 50 grams a day.  That definitely does not work for me though.  It's all chemistry, and relies on several factors:

I found that I was eating too much protein at first and had a really hard time kickstarting the ketones.  Once I cut my intake to about 0.75 grams per pound of lean bodyweight, those ketosticks were changing all sorts of colors.

Thanks for the input! Aside from staying in the recommended range, I guess I need to get some of those strips to be sure. 👍

JonnyPancake do you look at just net carbs, or do you consider total carbs? I have read controversy in this area. I'm wondering if net carbs can stall progress if the total before net it really high...

  • lchartin Yes, very cheap and useful.  I try not to obsess about the color- even a trace of ketones means you are in ketosis.

  • badmojomn I only look at net carbs.  I'm staying under 20, so total carbs rarely break 40.
