Scared to Keto- Diabetes Creeping in

My name is Avery from Camino, California.  I’m 48 years old, but act and feel much younger, lol.  My story goes like this;

I have been going to the gym regularly for the past few years.  Three years ago I moved from Hawaii to California to help my ailing father.  I went from 180 lbs to 210 shortly after the move!  I didn’t think I looked much different so I thought, muscle gain!  Suddenly, it’s Christmas season 2017 and I weighed 240 lbs, that’s a sixty pound gain!  Whoa!  People told me I looked great, but I noticed I couldn’t tie my shoes without being out of breath; ankles were swollen; feet hurt on long walks; and painful shin splints developed! I was in denial!  I thought this was part of my new muscular body, and I had to get used to it!

That was until I got my blood work back on January 7, 2018; it showed an A1C of 6.1 which is prediabetic!  High triglycerides! High bad cholesterol! Low good cholesterol!  What I work out and watch what I eat how could this be true?!  I read a book about fasting by Jason Fung, MD and further researched the Keto diet!

I was already familiar with Keto through Atkins and the induction phase but never thought Keto could be a life time commitment.  I am proud to say that I track my carbs everyday, exercise, and follow the program.  After a month on the program my blood glucose is rarely over 100.  I am now 219 lbs!  That’s a 20 pound loss in a month! My A1C is 5.4, no longer prediabetic!  So much progress in a short amount of time!  I am thrilled with my results and now I am Keto 4 life!  I have to say my only frustration is convincing my non Keto friends and relatives to follow the plan!  I even buy them the same books I read, and they look at me as if I’m crazy!  I guess I am! I love this new transformation happening and how good it makes me feel, so I am a little obsessed!

Keto 4 life!

Ps.  I race in Hawaiian Out Rigger Canoes, hence my user name!
