I stopped losing weight after one week Help!!

I started about two weeks ago and started out losing great. Almost 10 pounds in the first week and stayed in ketoSis. Now I have been eating even fewer carbs, not always by choice as I am a nurse and super crazy schedule, but have not lost a single pound. Strips say I am low to moderate ketoSis. What is wrong and what can I do??

    Hi Jen,

I was going to post almost the same thing as you did.  I started keto around 5 weeks ago.  Within two weeks I lost 13-15 pounds, which apparently is water weight.  The past two weeks I have not lost any more weight.  For my goals the app has me at 1300 cal per day and for my net carbs I take in 20.  Generally, I actually average below 1000 cal per day and I am not hungry.  Another puzzling thing is my keto test stripes are low-mod.  Like you I need direction on how to proceed.  Any guidance will be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

my calories are set at about 1600 and most days I am a couple hundred or so below that. I do know not eating enough calories will stall weight loss. I really am trying to stick exactly to my macros. I have a friend that didn’t even track and just made sure to eat 20 carbs or less a day and 1400 calories a day. She didn’t track anything else and lost it with no problem at all. I’m very frustrated. I will say I am feeling better overall but I really need to drop this weight.

Are you drinking enough water?  I'm just starting myself but I'm in another group and everyone said to make sure you are drinking the equivalent of half of your body weight in oz's of water per day.  During ketosis, your body must be hydrated to burn the fat.  You can add pink salt to your water if you experience low electrolytes which can lead to headaches.  Also, I've seen people report losing inches over weight on the scale.  Take your measurements often to see if that is changing.

  • Urine strips are good for letting you know you are burning fat but they are not very accurate in determining the level of ketosis. Hydration has a huge impact on the ketostix reading.  There are many factors that affect ketosis including your insulin levels and how much carbohydrate you actually “dose” yourself with during your eating cycle.

Jen hi Jen I was stuck also my weight would go up and down or just stay there.  I've been on the keto diet since the pendemic started.  So this past week I started a 21 carb cycling and it helped. Monday will be a week I weighed myself today and lost 4 lbs. And lost inches ad well. I did do 1 hour of Zumba plus squats for 5 days. It helped me to move forward. Good luck and hope for the best to you.👍

  • I find the intermittent fasting helps while on keto. I eat my first meal 16 hours after last meal. I'm disciplined to this routine and look forward only to coffee in morning after 3 mile walk, mostly hills.  There are longer hours to wait for intermittent fasting as well. Doing it this way keeps my mind off any eating until I see the clock around 10:30-11am.
