High Protein Low Carb?

Is anyone doing high protein low carb?  Just curious how others are finding that (as opposed to high fat low carb).  How is your exercise endurance on high protein?  Thanks.

Reason for High Protein/Low Carbs and Lower Fat

What is your reason for this approach?

    The Issue

The issue this approach is that, if you Fat intake is too low you body is not burning fat/ketones for fuel.

Your body, even on a low carbohydrate diet, is burning glucose.  It is converting protein (gluconeogenesis) into glucose.  That because are no consuming enough glucose from carbohydrates.

     Endurance

If you are consuming enough protein to maintain muscle mass and to provide glycogen for energy, you should be okay.

However, if you are not consuming enough protein; you energy level is going drop, as well as you muscle mass.

  • Nice to read this. I am only ten days in. Keeping it simple. Meat, vegetables, salads,  fiber supplements in a low carb shake. Exercising and losing weight.  There is some low energy, but I am ok with that. A nap in the PM. No changes for me for thirty days; then I’ll make a small adjustment. Sugar is addictive for me and I will relapse if I get into the trigger foods! Good to go for now. Greg

High-protein, low-carbohydrate diets, like The Atkins Diet, have been widely promoted as effective weight loss plans. These programs generally recommend that dieters get 30% to 50% of their total calories from protein

    • Low-fat plain Greek yogurt. Top your Greek yogurt with some nuts for an added boost of protein.
    • Almonds. Almonds are a quick and easy snack.
    • Sunflower seeds. Make a healthy trail mix with nuts and seeds.
    • Canned tuna.
    • Salmon.
    • Eggs.
    • Cheese
    • Tofu

A familiar problem with endurance. I don't get enough protein, so I don't have enough energy. But I feel a lot worse when I use sugar. So I try to adjust my diet to get the right amount of protein.

The human body requires carbohydrates to function properly. When you consume too many carbs, they get converted into glucose (a type of sugar) inside our bodies. This causes blood sugar levels to rise, leading to insulin resistance. Insulin resistance leads to excess fat storage around the belly area.

Carbs are essential for energy production, but consuming too much can cause health problems such as diabetes and obesity. In order to reduce carb intake, you must cut down on unhealthy snacks and processed food. Instead, opt for fresh fruits and vegetables. They contain fewer calories and fewer carbs.
