Feeling Depressed HELP

Hello Everyone.... Just looking for some help. I'm 36 years old, female and over 90 pounds to loose.

I started on June 14 2020 and I'm only down 5.6lbs and this week my weight didn't change.
-My numbers are 5% Carb 70% Fat 25% Protein and total calories is 1637 (app puts me losing 3.3kg per month)
-I'm very good at tracking and measuring everything!
-I also add in IF (12-8 being my window to eat)
-I drink 15-18 cups/glasses of water a day (mostly plain but I do add Mio Water flavor)
-I aim to work out 3-4 times a week (VR workouts noting with high intensity but I do sweat!) VR - "Virtual Reality" and weightless/body weight workouts on Fiton (exercise app)

-I haven'tadded the premium add on yet- so I have not added my Fitbit to the app

-I always meet my carb goal a day and even sometimes I'm even under my carb count a day.
-Before I ate like crap and so much junk and how haven't I seen results... All I've noticed is my belly isn't so bloated due to lack of carbs..

Thanks guys- anything is helpful- super down today. All that work and struggles of not cheating and being strong for 5lb and no weight loss this week doesn't make me wanna keep going..

I'm not sure but I think now you are retaining water weight. 15 to 18 glasses of water is a lot everyday.

  • Cyn. Sity thanks!! I've been drinking a gallon everyday for a long time. I've read benefits on it- especially my skin! I know that's not my issue..☹️

You're not supposed to "meet" your carb limit, just not surpass it. I read that you meet your protein and fats are a lever to keep you full. Im not sure of your weight,  but I was 200lbs and dropped my calorie intake to 1200 or less. Im now almost 30lbs down in 2 months. Maybe try and get less calories and drop your carb intake. You can do this!!

  • JediMadre what do you mean. Sorry I don't understand . (You're not supposed to "meet" carb limit) I'm either at my carb limit or I'm under by one. I'm only taking 5%carbs which is 20 net carbs in total. I never go over NEVER...

I'm over 200lbs- and I'm taking in 1637 total calories a day. Maybe I should lower it like you said.  I just don't want my body in starvation mode or I wont loose.

    Thanks for your help.

Hey Chrissy.  Unfortunately you need to lower your calories for quicker weight loss. I’m down 50lbs since January.  But over the last Two months have only dropped 5lbs due to a few extra calories here and there. Today I’m getting back on track to lose 50 more lbs. I’m only 5’0” tall. My calorie count for rapid weight loss is 1068 a day. Ketosis is not starvation mode. Are you checking your blood or urine to see if you are actually in ketosis? All important and very helpful guides along with the tracking. Good luck.

  • Hey all, please be aware that if you drop your calories below your BMR you will stall your metabolism eventually. This is less likely if you incorporate exercise.  I just don't want anyone going through the same struggles I have. Please Google your BMR and TDEE before setting your macros.

    Back story:

I started lazy keto in June 2019 and have lost a total of 107lbs to date. There were LOTS of long 2-3 weeks stalls here and there which always led me to tweak all of my macros one way or the other. If something didn't give me the scale results I wanted in 1-2 weeks' time, I changed things, again. Now I understand that because I never gave my body time to understand the changes I forced on it I have no idea which macro adjustment actually made the difference. It's a new language for your body, please remember that. Say I handed you a Dummies Guide to a second language you've never seen, should I expect you to write even an essay in that language in 2 weeks' time? No. But we all want a novel in that time frame, don't we.

Long story short-ish, I was exactly where all of you are/were and found that dropping my calories worked (and still does) the best. I was often eating 800-1100 cals most days and felt fine. I also practiced 23/1 IF keto but that slowly slipped to 20/4 IF keto as eating even 1200 keto style cals is VERY difficult to do in 1 hr, for me and forever anyway. I wanted something sustainable for life, so I added in a late lunch window putting me into more of a  18/6 window. At this point my BMR was 2085; I was eating an average of 1300.  That's when I noticed the weight coming back on, and fast. I was still eating keto, the only thing that changed was my eating window and calorie intake, which was still well below my TDEE of 2300. I adjusted everything, again. I couldn't take it and very nearly gave up, but I was down 70lbs at that point and my lifestyle and eating habits had already changed for the best, so why go back to crap now.

Everybody told me (yknow, the ones that 'just don't get it') that I could kill my metabolism and go into starvation mode if I don't eat enough cals or only once a day. BS! I said. BS! I'm not hungry and I feel fine. My body had over 100lbs of fat to live off of, it's fine I would say. And that was all true, my body feasted on fat; until it just didn't. I was in ketosis 2.0+ ketones, Glucose in the 65-80 range, but dead stall for MONTHS on weight loss. I incorporated 6-10 hrs a week in exercise. That got me to lose 1lb a week, for 1 month, then stalled again for 2.  I just didn't understand. I quit exercising, kept doing keto, but resolved to a 'guess I'm just supposed to be 230lbs for life'. Great. I got depressed and started eating less because I wasn't exercising. I was back to 800-1000 cal average... and then the weight started falling off again. 2-3lbs a week at first, then 1.5, now 1. I'm at 202lbs now. I still have 50-70lbs I'd like to lose and I have very clearly stalled my metabolism. Until I start putting on muscle, I will continue to have to lower my cals to get to my goal weight and be comfortable with a stall and possibly even gaining weight while I slowly try to rebuild my metabolism. I tried that all through August, and I just couldn't do it.  I don't feel well eating 1500+ cals, keto, or otherwise. Add weight gain to that and its a deal-breaker. I'm stuck with this ruined metabolism for now. This week I ate a total of 7736 cals and 128 net carbs and lost 1.1 lb. By my calculations, by the time I get to 150lbs, I'll be eating 500-600cals a day. That is NOT GOOD!!

I'm sorry I blabbed on and on, but I really don't want any of you having to live on so few calories. Once you start, you can't easily go back. Your body gets used to the cals you consume and every month you will have to lower them (or add more exercise) to continue losing weight. And it's totally unnecessary. Give your body time to adjust. Years of teaching it to live off crap can not be reversed in 2 weeks, keto flu or no keto flu.

If I had to do it over again:

I'd eat more cals, NOT do such strict IF and focus more on how I feel, NOT the stupid meaningless number on the scale that should only be used as a tool and not validation as a person in general. I've learned to live by this motto: "Just do a little better each day" That's easy for me. I am doing so much better, as ALL OF YOU ARE, then I was before this journey. I feel better too and that is what is most important. Everything else will fall into place on its own time.

Chunky Chrissy don't be depressed please, you've got this! You are already doing so much better for yourself than you were 2 months ago and it's very hard work.  Love you for that, you deserve it. And can I suggest a name change? How about Beautiful Chrissy or Brilliant Chrissy or Lovely Chrissy. I don't know you, but I'm willing to bet you have a million more positive adjectives for yourself *hugs*

  • ...and take your measurements! I only lost 1 pound the first week--but I lost 4 inches off my waist size when I measured the next week. This is a marathon, not a sprint. Take heart, friend!

Be careful of the water flavoring additives like MiO, and anything else you may be eating that uses artificial sugar.  Anything that ends on -"ose"  or "ame" will spike your blood sugar and affect  weight-loss.  The only sweeteners you should be using on Keto are Stevia or Monkfruit and even those in moderation.  Also, if you are utilizing too many "Keto" products instead of real food that will stall you.   Good luck and

You may need to increase sodium (salt) it helps replace electrolytes and keep water weight in check ... only weigh 1x a week, the way you feel and mental clarity are what drive me, not the scale bc it makes me feel so 😫 defeated if I haven’t lost weight every day - keep it up ... it’s a marathon lifestyle not a quick fix sprint 🥰
