11lbs in 1st week

I just started keto on Monday. This morning is day 4 for me. But before starting keto I stopped eating sugar last Thursday, and did a 2 day soup cleanse. So far I have lost 11 lbs!! I have lost roughly 3 lbs a day since starting keto! I think it’s safe to say my body is in ketosis! I started at 265, I’m down to 254. My goal is to get to 215 so I obviously have a long way to go. I realize this rapid loss is just water and that the weight loss will slow dramatically but I am very happy with the start and am extra motivated now that I see the scale going down!

Awesome Newf!  You'll likely keep dropping a couple of pounds each week.  I was excited to weigh myself every morning even a 0.2 change was motivating for me.  I did have a few ups and plateaus along the way, just ride those out.  I never tested I just followed the Carb Manager faithfully.  Works same as marriage if you think about it...if you're positive and faithful it works out!  hahaha I crack myself up

Supermom Despite having a great workout and drinking 15 big glasses of water yesterday, I didn’t drop any more weight today. I weigh every morning to keep motivated! I love seeing the number drop. I’m hoping this little plateau doesn’t last and that it’s because of all the water I’ve been drinking. I have an alarm set for every hour to drink 16 ounces

So after losing 13 lbs in a week I’ve now been stuck at my current weight for 3 straight weigh ins! So frustrating! I am being extra careful with recipes and logging everything. I’ve been well under on carbs everyday, and under or even with my protein and fat macros, being especially careful to not go any over on protein. I’ve been under in calories also. I take a TBSP of MCT powder every day so I can’t see how it’s possible I’m out of ketosis. I guess the main thing is that I haven’t gained but it’s still frustrating being stuck for 3 days! Any suggestions?

Newf1949 Hi Newfie, I too found it was like a staircase.  you do go flat for a few days, then drop down, then flat, then a drop, sometimes you go up a bit weirdly too.  It's a scatter plot, with an overall downward trend.  As for MCT powder, didn't know that existed.  13 lbs is a big drop let your body adjust to that, take a breather, and it will start dropping again.  As for the water, that sounds like an awful lot.  I'd say go with your own thirst, drink 8 oz instead, and if you crave more than that, have the 16oz but don't force it in.  Yes water is important, but there's no requirement to waterlog yourself either.  Try 8oz if you're doing the alarm every hour that should be plenty.  Some guy said he drank 21 glasses every day but I'm guessing he was a big man.  If you're under 200lbs or thereabouts I think it sounds a bit much.  This is SENSIBLE eating and drinking.  Not a fad diet.  So stick to what seems sensible to you. Congrats on the first 13 lbs my friend that must feel good!  Relax.  It will all happen. :-)

I find that it really helps to update my measurements each week as well. Even if the scale isn’t moving, the inches may be. Remember that if you are getting all of your protein and exercising, you are building muscle while burning fat.

Supermom I’m a big man. My goal is to get down to 200...I started at 265....now down to 250! It does feel great! I know the majority of that 15 lbs was fluid but I have had people tell me they see a difference so that feels great! 15 down, 50 to go!

Newf1949 Okay, so if you're a big guy, that's different.  However I stand by my comment that you judge how much water you need because too much can deplete your electrolytes so you figure out what is enough for you.  Your salt intake, your salad amounts will vary this for every person.  So no need to try and force water in that your body doesn't seem to want.  If it goes down quick and easy, great.   If you feel like stopping halfway through a glass, water a plant with the rest.  Take a Vit D3 with it too.  Helps you absorb the nutrients out of the food you eat which in turn helps you fend off sickness.  I didn't exercise so that's my next hurdle is rebuilding the muscles I once had in my younger days...some sort of tush would be nice to have back LOL!  Your 50 lbs will be gone by Hallowe'en I would think.  8-9 a month for women is fantastic, men I think lose faster.  If you're a workout or sporty guy, you're building muscle so factor that in.  Don't sweat the numbers.  Just weigh every morning and keto on.  You'll be glad you stuck with it.  I'm done losing weight and I'm still sticking to keto hopefully forever.

Lcarlisle Absolutely right.  I let my pants do the measuring, I liked my measurements when I was younger, not so much in my fifties...even thin now I'm thick around the middle you never quite get that 28" waistline back...mind landed up at 31.5 and that's going to have to do.  Hope you get back to your 16 year old self!  Go go go!

jlmilj that’s the main thing! Most of what I lost was fluids I’m sure. I started at 265, down to 248 as of this morning! 17 lbs and counting! As long as the scale keeps moving down I’ll be happy! As super mom said it’s a lifestyle change, a marathon, not a race! Keep up the great work!
