Gone Premium whoops 😬 not eating enough.

With 7 full weeks under my belt and 20lbs down 🙌 I now know I have been making mistakes.  I feel as if I have been & still am, studying for a vocational degree!

my monitor to measure blood for glucose & ketones arrived today.  Apparently it’s the only way to personalise macros.

for my own diet I currently need:

21g of net carbs (only use net carbs if you are strict about Keto otherwise use total carbs.

69g protein

114g Fats! Wow my new ‘go to snack’ is cheddar cheese (watch those ingredients closely before buying) with organic pure, salted butter on top 😋 guaranteed to curb carb & sugar cravings and much tastier than i imagined.

i have gone Premium here as optimal health is my goal. I have dug out my electronic scales ~ no more winging it head down & get on with it.

i will update my bloods & macros as & when I need to.  Feeling empowered.

24lbs to go to (current?)  goal. We can all do this! 🙌🌷

ps I do know what it’s like to be morbidly obese so perhaps you will forgive my obsession never to return on that journey (over 14 years now) I just keep fighting the same 50lbs over & over and I want this to STOP.

i won’t force myself to eat but fats first then protein  ~ for enjoyment a few carbs

Well it’s 19:40 UK and there is no way I can eat all of the above... I am going to have to increase portion sizes a touch and watch my bloods & the scales.

I am not going to eat fats to reach a goal or percentage, what I don’t get in dietary form I will use from stored body fat of my own. I aim to get my proteins now that I am fat adapted. Talking out loud here, this is for me. Going for approx 75g of fat 20g total carbs 67g proteins next 3 days.

My head is all over the place, am I reading too much? Total carbs seems to be the gold standard as our bodies can make their own carbs we do not need them physically ~ they are an emotional, nutrient (depends on what we eat) food that I am keeping very low... temporarily during maximum weightloss and using organic wherever possible, supplements. This will not be for everyone. As I near goal I will reassess how & what I am eating.  Proteins essential but not in as much as we think as our bodies reuse them so moderate proportions. Boy ignorance & winging it has it’s appeal at the moment and one day I hope to live in that much more relaxed intuitive way. But I need to learn how to eat well.

Wow 😮 I do see what you’re doing here! We are all so different, aren’t we ?

Your attending to total carbs rather than net is interesting and of course drives net carbs down further.  I think the fiber component of all of this to be important,  whether or not it’s part of a carb allowance.

I’ve slipped back and forth bw what they are terming “ ketogenic “ and LCHF. Seems easy enough.

Best of luck to you !

yatesa12 thanks I do take Solgar Psyllium Husks Fibre 500mg x 3 or 4 a day as fibre or lack of it does cause lack of ‘results’ shall we say... whilst I am still 100% no cheats & motivation is flying sky high, I want to lose as much as I can. I am half way there 🙌

i see the cardiologist on Nov 7, where I will have an echocardiogram & another ECG.

I have already had a 24 hrs ECG, Bloods etc. Some days I feel pretty good yesterday hardly got off the sofa & dizzy when I did (In case anyone new is reading this, ~ all this started before Keto & the desire to get well drove me to research & find Keto.)

so bloods much improved, apart from low potassium (supplementing)      serum triglycerides 1.2 mol/L serum cholesterol 4.7mmol/L both non fasting, I have heard nothing about ECG recording so I assume all is well? If I felt the need I would call an ambulance but so far I have never felt an emergency thank goodness. I do find holding my arms up to wash my hair in the shower hardwork.... yikes.

so my diet approaching goal will be altered as I go along trying very hard to eat intuitively. Fish is calling me tonight. 😀

Wow sure sounds like you are doing great !  I’ve been using psyllium once a week or when I think of it for years now. Although never constipated , that really cleans me out ha ha and I like the feel of that. That part of our anatomy and physiology is so undermined by everything societal, it’s hard for most to even mention it, no ? At the same time if we have a “ cesspool” this is it. Great to keep it healthy clean - for me that’s fiber, nontoxic diet + probiotics ( haven’t mentioned here but pref in food to pills) + psyllium.

Worry abt you in the shower what’s that about ? Do tell ur doc abt that.

Also the low K why that ? If not taking diuretics, we usually only see in anorexics, adrenal disorders or renal tubular acidosis.  Pls mention that as well so u can sort this out.  Both the latter can be tested for as explanation for low K.  Adrenal disorder needs tx and can explain a lot of things. Renal tubular acidosis unusual and often unimportant but can  be tested for. Nutritional ? I think the veggies wd be worth the carbs. Supplementing important but better to know why.

Yay on ur progress here Joanna ! Fish is wonderful. 0 carbs mostly

This is so sweet of you to take an interest & that is all very interesting to me. my potassium was of no interest to my Dr’s practice! My blood result sheet said discuss at next appointment. It was me that asked should I supplement ~ I was told eat bananas & tomatoes despite me saying I eat avocado most days... so as bananas are off menu supplements it is.

i do take 2.5mg bendroflumethiazide as part of my B/P medication.

I am not and never has been, anorexic...

I had acute pyelonephritis Dec 2016 but scan & follow up 3 months later showed no damage ~ possible adrenals then....?

    In the 180’s!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Okay only just 189.4lbs but my goal is currently 170lbs (5’10”) 56yrs young.

This thread is very much for me to see my progress & assess what I am currently eating. 26.4lbs lost in 8.5wks more than happy.

I am naturally doing IF at 19:5 occasionally this becomes 21:3 if I am busy I just get energized I can’t believe it. The only macros I keep track of are carbs.

https://youtu.be/5F5o0a4p_3U Dr Fung convinced me not to worry about calories as I just don’t have a massive consumption, just-a natural appetite ~ yes ME with a natural anything!!

Joyful oh thank you 🌸 I sort of hid away down here in my waffle blog to myself didn’t expect anyone to notice... 170 seems attainable it’s 2 yrs since I was happily living there! So many lessons learnt, I am not to be trusted with myself: if I open a bottle of wine I finish it... i then nibble and then I get whereby I open a bottle 5 times a week! I can’t eat sugary flavoured anything be it real or artificial sweeteners as it makes me want more & feel hungry, Good Bread I love but 6-8 large slices a day.... i was glad I stopped at 214lbs didn’t eat & drink my way even higher!

Joanna I just happened to see you'd hit a milestone in the "Recent" posts and had to pat you on your virtual shoulder. You're such a force of encouragement around here and deserve the kudos. I rolled right over that 214-mark and kept going...for years (I've been suffering from depression for years and, as they say, I eat my feelings). So I'm at 260 (started at 273) and my first goal is to go below 200. :-)

I'm embarrassed to say that I actually lost 100 lbs a couple of decades ago, following a sort of combination of the Doctor's Eades "Protein Power" plan and the Atkins diet (then slightly different), but in retrospect it was a ketogenic diet. That's why when I heard about keto (recently; I must have been living under a rock), I felt pretty sure I would respond well.

Anyway, I swore then that I'd never regain the weight. I didn't count on childbirth at 36 and then a miserable marriage and stressful single parenthood. I mean, how could someone fail to see they'd succumbed to sugar addiction again after a weight loss like that? Anyway, I'm back in track.

I just wanted to connect with you. You are a shining light in this little community and deeply appreciated.

Way to go, all around! 👏

Joyful you are very sweet but please ~ there is no need to say anything. I was given great advice & kind encouragement when I got here and my heart goes out to people like you & me both that’s all. I am struggling a little this week as I have a lot on plus I am getting a bit frustrated with people who won’t read or watch videos even to self educate on what they are doing to their own bodies ~ so I am feeling a bit tarnished with my good will..... and can see why others withdraw to take care of their own needs. You joined just in time 😀🤗 and your knowledge is very apparent, your replies are very informative.

You really don’t ever need to feel shame of regaining I repeat the same 42lbs or thereabouts.... weight loss every 2-3 years since my major loss  of 112lbs 14 yrs ago (similar to Keto which until this August, I had never heard of either) I kept trying other diets as weight would creap back on! Why? I just couldn’t face doing the big one again. My children are aged 32 & 26 and despite a mistake at only 21 (my first marriage), my second is bliss and coming up 30 yrs ~ so I truly am rooting for you after such a tough few years. Time to put you first for a bit!

Addictions are horrible I promise to be here for you ~ if anything stirs shout before you eat ~ message me! I say this but I am not sure how much WiFi I will have access to Fri-Thurs this week ahead as we are heading off to the true wilds of Northumberland in the middle of nowhere so hang on TIL I get back!! I will be good too I am not sure if I have it in me to fail & start over yet again. Wits end coming up 57. 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

Remember ladies, it's a marathon and not a race. I can't stress this enough. For the people who post about up and down daily losses or gains, that's ridiculous because that's water weight. Fat tissue holds water so of coarse its going to go up and down daily. I can hold up to and I have counted, 5 pounds of water overnight any given day. Or be dehydrated and think I lost a few pounds, only for it to return.  Put he scale away ladies, keep on the keto. Have a slimmer pair of pants you want to wear someday- let this be your guide. The further up you can pull them - you will feel proud and keep keto. If you have a meltdown- ask yourself why your eating that non low carb item? Eat it, quiz yourself. Get back on the fat train next day. I have family things going on and I have melt downs. I've come to realize we are human and I just can't boil pasta anymore for anyone nor can I keep it in my house fridge, it must go to the garage fridge. I'm 6 months in and still cringe when I hear someone eating a bagel around me or toast or crackers( I have non followers in the house ). Remember when we were raising our children when they were young, kids wanted all the naughty snacks, etc. I got this way because I have a good addiction and I wanted to eat healthier after my pregnancy, but when preparing non low carb foods, something takes over in me. We have to think of carbs as poison on ketogenic. Once you can get your mind over matter, it does help. I still crave the fast food on a bun. 6 months later and fat adapted. We all can do this but remember we are only human and we make mistakes. Learn from the mistakes. Talk to yourself.

badmojomn Your reminder that it's a marathon not a race is timely. My weight went up (just a tad, but up, lol) and I'm experienced enough at this to know it doesn't matter, but it's still a little deflating.

When I lost all that weight in my 30s, I frequented a resale shop (was losing so much I couldn't afford to buy new at each size, lol) and always had a pair of jeans the next size smaller. When the scale crept up or just refused to budge, I could often try on the jeans and see that I wasn't quite as stalled as I thought. I need to dig out some too-small jeans  👖

Anyway, thanks for the camaraderie, ladies. It's a nice feeling to have friends on this journey.

  • Hi - just started the LCHF “way of being” as we are calling it in our house last Monday.  Am down 3 lbs now-is that a typical rate of weight loss?

teifiwalescdf3 hi there 👋 not sure there is such a thing as typical. My first week I lost 7lbs but week one is water weight and it will depend on how much carbohydrate consumption you had before you started. Glycogen holds up to 7 times more water per lb than fat. Try to focus on eating enough fats, drinking water, getting lots of Himalayan pink rock salt & rest when needed. Your body has a lot on ~ it’s changing energy suppliers!
