Pork rinds, seaweed snacks, Swiss cheese slices  (my fav :), baked cheese (http://insidekarenskitchen.com/baked-cheese-crisps/), or Cello Whisps or Moon Cheese (https://www.mooncheese.com/), pepperoni or pepperoni chips (https://stepawayfromthecarbs.com/microwave-pepperoni-chips/), crab meat (not imitation, it has 15g!).

    Im sure there’s more, but that’s a start 😊

Good suggestions. But be careful with cheese--it's not zero carb and can cause stalls for some people if they eat too much of it. Pickles have carbs too, though not a lot. Pretty much anything meat. Deviled eggs are good too, though they do have some carb in them so they aren't totally free.

KETOMAMA I think most of it is one carb per ounce or thereabouts. I just googled a handful of the popular snack cheeses. String cheese is 1.1, Colby Jack is .7, cheddar is .4. And those may vary from brand to brand. But it's a dairy product, and most dairy has carbs.  It is a great snack, but if someone's stalling and can't figure out why but they eat a lot of cheese--that can be the culprit as it has hidden carbs in it.

  • My go to is a spicy pickle spear wrapped in bacon and baked in the oven. I make a batch 1-2 times a week. They are yummy cold dipped in a little ranch.

Almost all meats are free of diabetic carbs and there is sugar free jello with no carbs.  It will get boring. Be careful of nuts- 1 cup of whole almonds has14 carbs (I made this mistake already)  I try to stay under 10 to 15carbs.  Most of my carbs come from metemucil no sugar, about 2 carbs (2 teaspoons to a glass).  It is for making people regular but does not act like a regular laxative.  It also binds fats which will require your body to find other fat to burn.  Doctors also prescribe it for people with cholesterol problems. It will also expand in your stomach causing you to feel full.  I try and drink 3 glasses a day taking care of fiber and water intake at the same time.

Countless studies have proven that the Keto diet is great for losing weight, increasing “good” cholesterol levels, and even lessening the risk of a deadly heat disease.  However because the diet cuts down on fiber-rich carbohydrates like fruits and grains, it is common for those on a Keto diet to have problems in the bathroom—WHETHER IT IS GOING TO MUCH, or not at all.

By taking Keto fiber supplements like Metamucil (no sugar, 2 carbs) (there are some Metamucils that have sugar so make sure to look.  I like the orange flavour and it taste great) you can replace the fiber lost from this diet. By taking this you will have the benefit of improved regularity, reduced constipation, and less bloating.

I tried the Psylluim Husk powder and it was hard to drink, there are also Psyllium husk capsules (but if you do not get them down they can expand in your throat).  This is why I chose Metamucil.

I also like the Atkins Bars (the second place my carbs come from)  They usually have 2 to 3 diabetic carbs per bar.  They have a variety.  I especially like the Daybreak Chocolate Chip Chrisp. If You live in the USA you will hardly ever shop in the isles as that is where most of the carbs are.  (Soups, sauces, cereal, etc.) However if you live in New Zealand they keep their eggs on the shelves in the isles (I had to ask them where the eggs were).

I also would suggest a cookbook I found called “30 Meals In 5”.  They have 5 carbs, 5 ingredients, and 5 easy steps.  I have tried the Tartar Shrimp (Shrimp have no carbs so put as many as you like on salad) . This is avacoda, mixed with mayo, then chilled shrimp on top. I like to put salt and pepper on it (I buy the frozen shelled and deveined ones and just let them defrost a little) You could take this to work and have a great salad, and maybe not need the snack at all.  I have also tried the lasagna.  I make 8 helpings and freeze each one in microwaveable dishes and then I have a lunch in about 12 minutes. I also make egg, cheese, bacon (or any meat) maybe even some broccoli florets (you don’t have to use veggies) muffins.  This is easy to take to work also.  There are about 1.1 grams of carb in an egg  about 1 diabetic carb per ounce of broccoli.( I get the frozen broccoli florets and just use a little at a time and refreeze it).  I make the big muffins ( about 6 at a time and have to keep an eye on my family or I will not get any).  I also like sugar free jello (you can add a non-sugar sweetener if it is not sweet enough and then I put whipped cream on top.

You may want to get the Dr. Atkins “Carbohydrate Gram Counter”  book.  It lists hundreds of food and what their nutritional values are.  He is the heart specialist that developed the Keto diet.

I started on January 1 and have lost 14 pounds (The first 5 are usually just water, but I find on this diet that you will not fluctuate after a while). You may hit plateaus where you do not lose (I have had one week (twice this month) that I did not lose but I hear that when you are in plateaus, you are losing inches.

Do you use Keto sticks to see if you are in ketosis?  I have tried 3 types and the one I think is the most sensitive is called Bayer Healthcare-Diabetes Care Ketostix reagent strips for urinalysis. No all Keto sticks are the same sensitivity.

I think if you eat some different foods you will feel less need to snack.  You did not mention how many carbs a day you are trying to meet.  I have been known to cook two or three eggs and eat a whole package of bacon.  You will not feel hungry enough to snack after that.

Well I hope this helps. I have been where you are.  This is not my first time on this diet, and I have learned a lot from this forum.

    Sincerely,

    Beverly Avery

  • Beverly Avery do you count calories? And what percent macros do you use? I’m struggling . I show I’m in ketosis but I’m not sure my test strips are good. I am going to dro to 10-15 carbs and follow your lead... I have been at 20-21 carbs .. under 1500 calories...

  • I do not look at calories at all and I eat a lot of fatty meat.  Here in New Zealand they have a meat called “Pork Belly”.  It is almost all fat and a little meat—-like bacon but more.  I know some watch their calories but the least calories I have had is today at 756 calories ( I had Psyllium Husk Powder, Deep fried Chicken wings (2 Ounces), 1 slice processed cheese, one fried Sasuage (80 grams), Chocolate Perfection Chocolate Bar 1 gram of carb, Deep fried squash 10.6 ounces.

I usually go over 1000 calories a day like on Jan 29th I had 2.4 oz of Pork Belly  0 carbs, 3 large fried eggs 4 carbs, Atkins Day Break Chocolate Chip Chrisp Bar 3grams of carbs,2 slices of processed cheese 2 g of carbs, McDonnalds child’s cheeseburger-just the burger 3 grams, 3.7 oz of baked pork chop without the bone 0 carbs, and coleslaw 4 ounces =4 grams of carbs.  So I had 16 carbs and 1633 calories.

ON Jan 27 I had 2336 calories and only 10 grams of carbs.  Atkins Day Break Chocolate Chip Crisp Bar 3 carbs, Pork Belly 5.7 ounces 0 carbs, 1 slice processed cheese 1 carb, Psyllium Husk Powder (Metamucil no sugar) 2 carbs, Pork Belly 7.3 oz. 0 carbs, and another Atkins Day Break Chocolate Chip Bar 3 carbs.

I am an 56 and I started with the Dr. Atkins diet.  I can get into ketosis in three days by eating a lot of fat in the beginning.  I started this diet on Jan 1 and have lost 16 pounds as of Jan 31 today (keep in mind that the first 5 pounds are water and you will not have this in the following months). I hope to lose 10 to 12 pounds next month.  There are some people I know who have certain illnesses that cannot have fat, but on this diet I think it is key.

I eat a lot of rib eye, fish, shrimp, spare ribs, pork chops, ham shoulder, egg onion cheese and broccoli muffins.

Badmojomn is a good one to follow.  She introduced me to a chocolate bar called Chocoperfection and it is perfection and only 1 carb.

Unless you have an illness and you can’t have fat do not worry about the calories and just count your carbs.  My Keto stick shows that I am at level 80.0 mg/dl and I pretty much stay here unless I go straight meats (fat and all) then I go higher.  This is not going to happen as I love deep fried squash and mushrooms, etc.

When I set my carb at 10 to 14 the other macros aligned themselves, I did not have to do anything.

Hope this helps and I have not scared you.

    Sincerely,

    Beverly Avery

Beverly Avery Your going on end of 1 month now. If your feeling great and no keto flu, try cutting back some of the extra fat- by that I mean extra butter, mayo etc. this should theoretically help you start burning your body fat more efficiently. If you start to feel dumpy then up back up the fats. That’s what I’m doing now but I have to incorporate some more veg due to PH levels off. I just got some Nutrex hawaii pure Spirulia capsules hoping this will help along with a potent probiotic.

    Dear Badmojomn,

I do not use much butter or mayo (except the new dish with the avacoda I have been writing about which uses two tbs) My fat comes from meats (pork belly, bacon, salmon, ect).  I do not count anything but carbs.  I have done this diet many times in the past 20 years (after children were born) with no problems.  I now am practically bedridden with a herniated disk and put on weight because I decided to eat every sweet you could name for about three months (BIG PITTY PARTY).

I am doing better now (not so depressed) and I know this diet comes easy for me as I can get to the highest purple on stick just by eating nothing but meat.  I prefer to stay at 80 mg/ld and have some salad, ect.  I can get into ketosis in three days with ease.  I am able to eat fried foods such as chicken, mushrooms, and squash and I do not fall out of ketosis. (My husband must be very very strict or he will never even show a trace).  From this I learned that this diet works better and faster for some then others (My husband has no use for it anymore; he counts calories only).  I don’t have the mind to keep all of those numbers of calories for all of the different foods in my head, so just counting to 10 carbs or maybe 14 lately is ok.

Once I hit my goal I will eat other foods as long as my stick shows a trace of pink.  I could never keep up with all of the things you seem to know about.  It amazes me that you know so many things (like MCT).  I have never heard of it. I am reading on it now.  I am learning a lot from you.

Oh! I wanted to tell you that I found a product called “carbquik” (I found this on Amazon.  You are supposed to be able to make biscuits with only 2 carbs.  It says you can make a pizza ( I usually only eat the tops off of pizzas).  Have you heard of this?  I hope not as I would like to share something new and surprising with you.

    Sincerely,

    Beverly Avery

Beverly Avery I have tried carb quick. It’s not a bad product. I would only use this as a treat. Any kind of keto flours, almond, etc I use as a treat. You could flour your items in this I would imagine and not use white flour. I actually made back in the day for a treat, some raspberry cream cheese little muffins. This is why I say a treat because they were so good, I could have eaten the whole recipe in one sitting. They were amazing. I used fresh raspberries.  I don’t have the recipe anymore but im sure you could find one.

    Dear Badmojomn,

Did you get my last letter?

    Are we doing diffferent diets?

    What is wood season?

I plan to make biscuits (not cookies-in NZ biscuits are cookies) and smother it in butter ( carbquik).  It is supposed to be 2 carbs a biscuit.  I also plan on a pizza ( I usually just eat the top of the pizza, but I would rather eat the bottom as I am a carb freak).

I have now ordered in the ChocoPerfection dark chocolate orange.  I am crazy about these. Thank you soooo much for this information.

Just in case you answer me (and I do not find your answer) as to how this app lets me know when you have written me ; will you E-mail me after a time if I do not respond to you? Email: swamppqueen@hotmail.com

I would hate to miss any other ideas you have.

Today my husband and I tried the wonderful coffee you called BPC.  It is also a wonderful idea as I have not had coffee in a long while.  My husband liked it too.

    Sincerely,

    Beverly Avery

  • Ok let me just start by saying for me personally I have zero constipation issues. IMO keto does not mean eating nothing but meat. In fact many believe that eating excess protien causes gluconeogenisis. I'm sure I still end up eating more than suggested. I eat way more vegetable than I did before. You could eat a TON of spinach and still not come close to your net carb limit. Believe me you eat a lot of greens you won't have ANY constipation issues!I like to fast so that I can get away with eating a few more things I like in one meal and still stay below my carb limit. Asparagus, broccoli, greens, cucumbers are all great low glycolic index vegetables. I just don't like others to think they have to give up vegetables when they go keto, especially for someone that misses them. Ok as for my FAV thing I can have on this diet and not feel guilty about are chicken wings! I can have chicken wings as long as they aren't breaded, with buffalo sauce and an ice cold Michelob ultra(which does sacrifice about 2.5 carbs but it's worth it.) STILL miss real pizza dough and tortillas though. Pepperoni chips sound amazing
