I was there a number of years ago. I had never been very athletic but one day about 12 or 13 years ago and weighing about 200 lbs I finally decided enough is enough. I had two boys just a few years old and I need to be fit enough to do things with them.
I decided then and there to never ever be 200 lbs again and so far it has worked. I have drifted up to the low 170s a few times but never higher.
I found paleo first about 5 or so years ago and then about 2 years ago keto. I wasn't able to stick to either longer than about 6 months but they definitely helped me get m weight and body fat down.
My hope is to make this a more permanent lifestyle change. I don't foresee myself being in a constant state of ketosis but rather moving in and out of ketosis once I have reached my goals and have maintained a state of ketosis for a few months in a maintenance mode.
I have observed that I have difficulty maintaining a steady weight and body fat% when on a less regimented carb diet where I am not tracking what I eat. I start off fine but as the months drag on I slowly start to gain weight again.
I will provide what insights I can based on my own experiences and what research I have found.

Megs1112 I commend you on your efforts to improve your life. If you would like I can provide you insights into my experiences on keto. I still struggle at times to remain on keto, I am close to my goals but it can be hard at times to keep focused and to get back on track when I falter.
Good luck and I am willing to offer support and encouragement.

If you give Keto a try and log in your food you will see results. I am 69 and about 20 pounds overweight. After three months I am down 17 pounds and feeling great. As I get closer to my goal I am finding it harder to lose even one pound. I am determined though. My husband has lost 22 pounds. I love this diet and will continue after I reach my goal. Good luck👍👍 You’ve got this. Please keep us posted on your progress.
