New to group

Hi I’m Christine and I literally just found out I’m diabetic on Monday.  I’m in an integrative medicine program directed by doctors and they did a full in depth work up on my blood etc and that’s the biggest issue I’m facing right now.  Of course I have other medical issues which is why I finally went to this program.  Was tired of not being treated as a whole person.  Anyway they want me on a Keto diet to get my blood sugars under control.  I’m so clueless where to start.  Especially since I have my own business and work 10-12 hours a day and have no time to cook.  So I’m hoping I can do this with the good keto/low carb frozen meals that are out there.  At least until I lose some weight and get some strength back.    Sooooo many medical issues going on I feel like I’m trying to go through the entire medical dictionary of diseases!  Anyway I’m really glad to find this place and thank you for reading my very long intro.   Oh yeah!  I’m 47, live in Texas with my husband and mom.  My oldest son lives in Las Vegas and youngest son is in same town just recently moved out.  Officially an empty nester!  Ugh!

  • Hi Christine. My wife and I are also from Texas near Houston. We just recently decided to do keto and it's been kind of fun finding stuff to stay under 35 carbs a day. I work crazy odd hours on shift work so I feel your pain  but we Googled low carb snacks and went grocery shopping. There are a ton of foods that will work for you. We eat eggs, scrambled, boiled etc that are fast and easy, we eat a good low fat meat of some kind, chicken is really good, fish is good too. We cook enough to have leftovers to eat the next day or so. You probably already know all that but stay strong and hope you get better. Welcome to keto Shane and Anna

Sugarshane  I think a part of it is psychological too... I've been going at "eating fast and easy" for so long that anything that isn't delivered or frozen feels like so much work.  I just gotta get back into the habit again and really work hard to do this.

  • Wyndsong I hear ya. It's hard to break old habits but I just got tired of seeing myself in the mirror and thinking why do I do what I do. I'm a big candy eater so not having any sweets is hard but I'm doing good so far

Sorry to hear about your medical difficulties. Being in ketosis provides relief to a lot of us. Quite remarkable actually. Think about what you want to get out of keto. Reverse type II diabetes? Not have to take meds? Feel energetic and young again? Lose weight and feel satiated??? Reduced aches and pains? Stave off inflammatory diseases? I'm not saying keto WILL do these things, but what if it can? It has done many of things for me and others. At least there's hope and support and let's be honest, deviled eggs and dark chocolate and antipasto and steak are easy and yummy and filling for diet food!
