Exercise...help!

Im quite into running and have been doing it on and off for about 7 years now. Im 2 weeks into keto and really enjoying up but holy smoke has my running suffered! Ive just got back from a flat 6 mile run that i almost crawled and cried the last 4 of when i would usually run 8 miles on hilly terrain pretty easily, i had nothing in me at all and had to keep walking! I know ive read a few places that i will get more energy soon but i just wondered how other people find it, do i need to adjust my macros or just plod through? If its a choice between keto and running im stuck!! Help, any advice nice keto people? X

jonesginny0051c39 running at your distance takes a bit more effort in sustaining your energy levels to make the run.  You really should educate yourself with running and ketogenic. I haven’t done long and hard exercising with keto but I have landed information that yes, marathoners and heavy lifters need a bit more of things at certain times. Easing into running is one of them I think, even though your used to doing miles and miles. More electrolytes and potassium, and when fat transitioning occurs your running at the same time could cause an issue with how your feeling. Switching over light a switch into keto and running that many miles isn’t going to be good. There are processes you should follow so as to not injure yourself, and organs. Google search starting ketogenic and jogging, etc.

jonesginny0051c39 I got up with my coffee this morning checking out the forrum. YouTube has great vids on people following keto and running. Your going to find a lot of information and opinions on it though,  that may seem overwhelming. Everyone has their opinions and your just going to have to experiment a bit to see what your body likes and doesn’t. Take a cumulative approach from all the opinions and use the average, then see how you feel. I always worry about kidney injuries or rhabdo with people who do high stress workouts and ketogenic.

jonesginny0051c39 How are you doing with your running? I am suffering greatly from  heavy leg syndrome.  I am training for half marathon and I’ve never felt this kind of lack of energy in my runs. I am in my second  of a fourth month of training plan, I just keep waiting for the energy to return. I’m a long time marathoner but I am loving the keto way of life.  Any suggestions  or awesome recommendations that you have come across would be greatly appreciated.

Jennifer Sounds like you are getting way too much protein. You need lots of fat and much less protein for your energy to return.

  • Definitely research targeted keto. I do a fairly intense HIIT workout and have found that doing targeted ketos helps wonders. You might have to protein up directly after run, too, to keep muscle mass.
