Net carbs vs total carbs

Which one should I be counting? I am pretty active and LOVE carbs. I want to be realistic for my goal but also want to see the scale move at a reasonable pace.

This depends if your ketogenic or low carb following. Sometimes low carb followers just specifically reduce carb intake and work their way down to 70- 50 or less net along with fasting and a slight calorie reduction. Depends on BMI and goal weight.

badmojomn  thx! I am 160lbs. BMi is 25.1 just overweight. When I enter that I am 159 it's 24.9 which is normal. So I'm just on the border. But I would realistically like to lose 15lbs. I really never stick to any diets and have been unhappy with my weight forever. I do exercise often. I feel like when the diet is really restrictive I go nuts and cannot stay on it.

alsal79 For little weight or fat to come off, be prepared - this could take awhile. Be patient and follow either low carb or keto. Either one you should see results. In the beginning personally- I didn't track calories. I need for ketogenic- to get past the flu part. For me it was terrible I will admit and lasted longer than most people. I only counted carbs - net for first month or more then really focused on caloric reduction.  Now I eat 20 net and low calorie most days. My focus for a day is more fat than protein always. Artificial sugars are killer to my success. I have read it's easier to start lower carb reduction then reduce as you go along. The transition is sounding a lot more easier for some. You may find your pants fitting better before that scale moves month 2-4 . This happened to me. Scale didn't move much but my pants were falling off month 3+.
