Macros and exercise

So far I have not deducted macros for the exercise I’ve been doing, but I’m wondering if I should be? I exercise for 60-90 minutes a day and have been subtracting the calories but not the macros...which doesn’t make a lot of sense because my calories end up being well below target while my macros are close to maxing out. Is it better to have all off or should I have all on? My main goal is to lose weight, I am not having any issues with being hungry at all, but I am lacking a little energy and afraid of losing muscle if I’m exercising a lot and not getting enough protein. Please advise!

  • I wasn't sure about this either... up until yesterday I had them on but it seemed so strange having it all down so low.... my fitbit is connected so it takes my steps for the day.  I decided, after a week and a half in, to turn it off so I can get used to what 25 net carbs really is.  My guess is this is a difficult thing to answer as all our bodies are different.

Hi - I have had a similar dilemma.  I also exercise quite a bit and have “net calories” turned on but not “net macros”.  I do this so I can still see if I’m at a deficit, but as you note, your macros will max out or come close to it while your calories stay low.  I’ve found that I need the extra nutrients when working out or else I feel unwell.  So if I have to go over on something, I go over on fat - much better to exceed on fat than protein or carbs.  Sometimes I also toggle on the “net macros” just to see where that puts me on certain days, and that makes me feel quite better for going over on fat.  I’ve lost 13 lbs in 3 weeks with a normal starting BMI, so something is working 😉

  • Hello, I feel that it would be helpful to you to just try the macros deduction. You will most likely still lose the weight.  I have been using it and I feel fine.
