Liquid Sweeter

Hello, I have been on the Keto, dairy free diet for 3 weeks.  The hardest part is to drink the one gallon of water everyday.

The other one is that my teas and avocado smothie must have a little bit of sweet.

I tried all but the only one that I can get use to is Splenda Liquid.  It says NO CARBS on the liquid form.

Any thoughts about this topic?

Thanks

Sucralose (Splenda) is an artificial sweetener, and widely frowned upon by the typically clean eating keto community, just like saccharine (Sweet n Low) and aspertame (Equal).  All three of these have 1 net carb per packet according to Carb Manager.  Despite common misgivings in the healthy foods community, there's not really any concrete evidence there's anything wrong with eating them.  The recommended natural non-caloric sweeteners for keto are stevia, xylitol, and erythritol (derived from monkfruit).  ***If you have pets, be aware that xylitol is toxic for them*** Depending on brand, these have no net carbs.  Most people find monkfruit sweeteners to be the tastiest, stevia's the easiest to find and cheapest.

All that said, the main place I use sweetener is in hot tea, and none of the natural sweeteners taste sweet to me in it.  In the end I often relent and add a packet of Equal, which has for thirty years been my main sweetener.  In food a mix of stevia and monkfruit works, but for tea, Equal has no equal.  😁

    Hello Moondrake,

Thank you very much for your prompt attention to my question.

I have tried all but the best one for my taste is Splenda. The Monkfruit that I bought shows 4 carbs per serving.  It is so confusing for sure.

Have a goodday and goid luck on your goals.

RosieG Those 4 carbs from the monkfruit are gross carbs not net.  They are theoretically non-dietary, which means you don't digest them, they don't affect insulin or calories.  That's why it says 0 calories, even though 4 dietary carbs would be 16 calories (1 carb = 4 calories). I have noticed that when I use monkfruit there's a dark sediment at the bottom of my cup.  It tastes a bit like sawdust, and I finish my tea with care so it doesn't get mixed in and goes down the drain instead of my throat.  Since it isn't listed as fiber, I don't know what it is. Xylitol is the same, and entries for stevia are all over the place, but Truvia, a popular brand, has the same 0 calories 4 gross carb profile.  It makes a big dent in my gross carbs, but not big enough to push me over and my main focus is on net carbs.
