Been in Ketosis over 5 weeks and gained 2 lbs??

I’m feeling great. Sleeping better than I have in years but my weight is going the wrong direction! I’ve gained 2 lbs since starting. I’m 51 and fairly active. I don’t necessarily need to lose weight, and am doing this based on the other benefits as directed by my doctor. She suggested staying under 50g of carbs per day and not to worry about calories. I quickly moved down to 40g carbs per day since I didn’t get any keto flu symptoms. The first couple of weeks my weight stayed the same but it’s now gone up by 2lbs! I’ve now lowered my daily intake from 40g to 30g and am hoping that helps. I’m also starting to track calories. It’s worth noting my macros are also pretty much on point with at least 70% intake coming from healthy fats and about 20-25% coming from protein. Has anyone else seen the scale go the wrong way following this plan?

  • As I am sure many will point out, calories do count.  Have you checked to confirm you are in ketosis?  I would suggest you track your foods, make sure you are in a caloric deficit by calculating your TDEE (totaly daily energy expenditure) on one of the online calculators, and perhaps try lowering your carbs to 20 or below if that's possible for you.  At 20 or below total carbs you are pretty much guaranteed to go into ketosis.  Good luck!

Maybe your keto recipes were not correct. Tell me more about your meals in a day
