chicken so high in protein

I’m new and confused. yesterday had 2 meals, same one, of half cup rotisserie chicken, salad, raw veggies. it throws me way over my allotted protein percentage. Does that mean I can only eat protein once day if it takes me way over my limit? 2 half cups of chicken in a day is too much? I hate to have a steak. that’ll take it all too. explain please!

  • It depends on your reason for doing keto. If it's for weight loss, protein should be a goal and your calories and carbs should be the limit. Enjoy the chicken.

A cup of chicken a day should not put you over your macros unless they are set too low. What else is in your chicken salad? Last night I had chicken salad, funny enough. The chicken thighs (2, boiled with skin on and bone in) were only 6g of protein and were 29g fat. My macros are at 91 for fat and 61 for protein so well within the limits. However, I did put a homemade dressing of 1/8 C each of Hellman's and sour cream on it! That little bit of mayo was also 28g fat...and then there was the 3 oz of bacon, also 23g fat. So, I didn't over a bit...but can't blame it on the chicken.

  • SkinnyMe weird. look up rotisserie chicken. I did half cup skin off and it’s 45 g protein!

lindacampbell13545aa7 , so, I did pick you up wrong on the 'proteins' and I did just put in skinless thighs. You are right, rotisserie chicken seems to be very high in protein. How very strange! So, my suggestion would be to cook your own chicken. I boiled mine last night, takes out more fat, for my salad. I don't know how much it was in cups but it was 3.5 oz after boiling.  It seems you'll get a lot more chicken if you cook it yourself!

Out of curiosity, did your meals fill you up or were you left hungry?

  • SkinnyMe  I’ll give up my rotisserie chicken lol it’s so much easier to pick one up cooked! I make good salads to go with the chicken so I’m satisfied but one cup instead of half cup would be better lol  I do a lot of slow cooker cooking so will see if I see a difference with my own cooked. I do love chicken thighs too and they’re so good from the slow cooker.

well, thanks for the feedback. It’s much appreciated.

lindacampbell13545aa7 , good for you. Let's hope it's as simple as changing your chicken!
