New to keto
Hello I'm 70 and have always been overweight. Several years ago I lost 50 lbs (took me a year) but I have since gained it back. I used a low carb diet to do it. I've been reading about keto and want to try it. For the last week I've kept my carbs below 30 but (according to the keto strips) I have not reached ketosis yet. Do I need to go below 20 carbs?

Keto strips aren't necessarily accurate. The most accurate way to test is through a blood test. You're obviously watching your macros, so just follow the 75/20/5 basic formula and you should be fine. Put yourself in a slight calorie deficit and try some intermittent fasting. When you stop have the carb cravings and no longer get "hangry" between meals you'll know you're in ketosis.

Charlotte I agree with pmcafee. Morning fasting is easy for me if I'm busy. I always lose weight the days I do a morning fast/exercise combo. I do that 2-3 times/week. It should also put you into ketosis because exercising while fasting is supposed to increase ketones.
My weight loss stalled at 20g net carbs/day. When I went down to 18g carb, my weight loss increased. You might try different carb levels until you get the result you want.
I'm older, too, so I know how much harder it is to lose weight and keep it off.
I'm trying to come to grips with the knowledge that I can't expect to keep the weight off if I eat bread and pasta or even fruits and veggies like I used to!
