New to Group

Hi everyone,

I am new to this group. I am having a difficult time navigating through this app. For instance, I don’t know how to calculate the carbs in the foods I want to select for the day. I am a diabetic and I want to lower my a1c to below 6. I would like to follow a keto diet. Please give me some assistance.

Conseco,  What is your current weight, current BMI, target weight and current A1C?  The surest way to go from diabetic to non diabetic is to loose weight and keep it off.  A short cut is to use the methodology pioneered by Dr Roy Taylor ( just google roy taylor) his program reduces the caloric intake to 800 calories a day for 10 weeks ( 4 200 calorie shakes per day ) and successfully lowers A1C.  Keto can  have the same affect but slower and over time.  Keep in mind that Keto will not work unless it produces a caloric deficit.  Keto produces a two fold response.  First fat is more filling and produces a lower, longer lasting insulin response allow you to eat less.  Secondly it trains your body to use fat as a fuel.  However this does no good unless you have a caloric deficit.  This is why keto is often combined with fasting and intermittent fasting.  During fasting a body that is already conditioned to use fat (ketosis) will burn body fat more quickly with less side effects.

Also drink only water.  There is some evidence that caffeine raises blood sugar in the presence of food especially in those prone to diabetes.  I also speak from experience.  My last blood test on 6/17 my fasting blood sugar was 139, today I am at 77
