Macros too low?

Hi, I'm new to keto. Today is my 5th day. I'm using the Carb Manager app and love it! However, I'm concerned I may be eating too little? I started at 244 (I'm 5'2") and entered all my data (I'm not exercising/sedentary) and the app determined my macros to be the following:

13g net carbs; 64g protein; 80g fat

This comes out to under 1200 calories a day.

I'm hungry all the time.

And I've always heard diets under 1200 calories are not healthy.

I've lost 8 pounds in the last 4 days (realize it's mostly water weight 1st week).

Note, I've entered my data into other calculators and they come up with macros equaling 1325 calories a day and about 100g fat and 80g protein.

I want to see this out for 2 weeks at the level carb manager calculated, but if I'm still hungry all the time after 2 weeks, I may need to make changes.

Appreciate any input. Thanks!

  • My experience has been that sometimes in the beginning you need to go higher in calories because you have other things at play that make you hungry.  Such as candida, poor gut biome, etc that are used to high carb and cause cravings.  I have found these die off after a while and you can be more satisfied with less food after that.  More fiber, celery, veggies etc to help with bulk and lots more water may also help, since are doing well on getting enough fat.   Good luck.

Thanks, Anna. I'm trying to drinks lots of water. And I've had gut issues in the past, so that makes sense. I have celery on my shopping list! Thanks for the feedback and tips.
