meg So what gram of carb are you staying under? Studies have shown cholesterol running through the blood in a nutshell isn't worrisome. It's the condition of your blood vessels-i.e. Inflammation markers, etc. If you haven't been low carb long, it's going to be high because the body is still adjusting. Don't test for another year.

Thanks - my goal amounts, 50 carbs (1/2 convertible to fiber), 31 fat grams, 80 protein grams.
Today, for example, 8 carbs so far for breakfast converts to 4 net carbs and 3 fiber after fiber conversion. (2 eggs with pepper and bacon) and water.
Yesterday's total was:
31 (of 50 allowed) total carbs, (19 net carbs and 7 fiber)
35 fat grams (31 allowed) ,
86 (of 80 allowed) protein, and
total 548 calories.
I ride 6 miles a day on my bicycle and run up and down my stairs (disabled brother) about 8 times a day.
I'm new to this so I'm working on the balance.

meg Are you saying that you are using 50 net carbs? That is calculations of total carb-fiber. I'm not sure where you are getting your "half equation from ? And you ride a bike 6 miles a day and run up and down stairs? Please don't tell me your eating under 1000 calories in a day, unless your like 4 feet tall.

Hi,
I'm using a carb system (carb manager) that tracks what I eat. I normally eat this much. I look at food as God's only mistake! I don't really like to stop to eat so yes this is about what I eat. The system does the calculation for the fiber from carbs. No, my target is 50 regular carbs, then the system converts that to register and fiber carbs. P. S. I run up and down because my brother is disabled so I naturally am going downstairs to see him about 6 times a day.

meg if your current bmi is under the low 20 mark, this seems appropriate. If your moderately in the overweight part of the bmi, and only eating roughly 600 calories a day, this could be why your overweight. I'm thinking you need more food. This just seems strange to me your doc wants you to loose weight and your biking 6 miles a day and what sounds like really active in between. Are you eating maybe once a day? And light snack? A lot of diet soda? How long have you been eating around 600 calories a day? Without knowing your height, wt, body frame and bmi, I have questions. Maybe you just started biking the 6 miles daily after the doc visit? Or was it prior for awhile? The timing of the cholesterol check and the lowering of calories with Atkins may have spiked the cholesterol, I don't remember the reason but I read I somewhere.
