Coke Zero and Wines

Hi, my name is Silvana. I’m new to Keto, and need to know whether  Coke Zero is allowed on Keto? I’m getting mixed messages on this. Will Coke Zero stop me from reaching ketosis?  I’ve been on the program for a week now, and with the exception of Coke Zero, and an odd glass of wine, I have followed the diet plan closely. Will these two beverages hold me back from reaching ketosis?  Thank you for your responses.

I’m not sure about wine, but I’ve been drinking Coke Zero and zevia, and I’ve been in ketosis this whole time. If you get to a point where you’re plateauing, I’d ditch the soda to see if it helps.

I think people say to stay away from diet soda because of the negative side effects of aspartame.

Re: Soda - There are proponents of Coke Zero that have had great results...IMO, it should not hurt your progress, but I would drink it sparingly. I drink the ICE brand of drinks (sparingly) or the Zevia when I need a tot of rum or just a refreshment. You could also experiment - i.e., have some over a period and monitor your numbers/progress to see if it is an inhibitor or not.  I will occasionally have a glass of red wine on festivities but typically steer away from them.

Wine - I would indulge very sparingly. There are certain wines that, imbibed ocassionally, are on the Keto menu.

All in all, we all have different bodies, different factors, reactions, e.t.c., and it may just be an if-it-fits -your-macros-just-have-it kind of thing. Just watch those insulin spikes.

Disclaimer: These are just my own opinion and thoughts. Do your research as there are so many resources out there. 🙂

In general, you can use an Internet search engine (e. g., Google) to see if something is "keto friendly."

For sugar substitutes specifically, go to YouTube and search for "Thomas DeLauer keto sweeteners." Also see his video titled "Keto diet tip: How artificial sweeteners affect ketosis."
