Accuracy of Scanned Products Nutritional Values

I have been on Keto for 30 days and have lost 22 lbs.  As a big guy, I expected this weight loss, and probably greater.  However, it turns out that I have been unknowingly sabotaging myself by relying on the scan feature of Carb Manager.

I have been consuming roasted pecans as a snack for hunger pangs.  The scan  (Great Value by  Walmart) imported the nutritional values at 4 carbs and 200 calories per cup.  I did not verify the actual packaging because I thought the scan was reliable.

It turns out that the actual value for one cup of roasted pecans is closer to 16 carbs and 800 calories  (4 times greater).  Carb Master has now self corrected this information in its data base.

Of course, now I am paranoid and am looking at all labels I scanned in to ensure accuracy.
Has anyone had a similar experience.  Have you found the scans to be reliable?

So bummed that I could be further down the road and into deeper ketosis if I had not trusted the scan and confirmed the label myself

Had a similar experience and now I always double check "new" foods.  Once I have them in "my database,"  when I add foods to track throughout the day I use QUICKFIND / FREQUENT to get to foods that I have already vetted.

22 pounds is still awesome.  Be stoked!

  • I had the same issue with Carb Manager.
I double check the label’s and edit the food items. I started Keto using Keto diet app before switching to Carb manager. I keep the app and check foods when it seems off.
congratulations on the weight lose. I’m down 70 since March 11th.

Scans have generally been pretty good, but not fool proof. I agree with those who said they always check the scanned data against the label when entering a new food.
