Exercise recovery drinks
Hi all,
I'm now in my 2nd week of keto and I am suffering. I do 5 mountain bike rides per week, three of 2 hours and two 1 hour sessions. My pre-keto carb intake was 60g during the long rides and 20g during the short rides, followed by a 70g carb recovery drink after the long ones.
With no more carbs to boost my rides my performance and especially recovery has been taking a beating.
So my question, is there a practical keto solution for this or should I look at the cyclical diet?
Thanks.

Rex, first of all, welcome to the keto world!
If I may, I’d recommend an excellent book, ‘The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance’ by Drs Jeff Volek and Stephen Phinney. (Also: check them out on YouTube). I found the book to be very informative about the sustained energy available from fats (I loaned my book to a friend so I’m trying to recall the details; something like only ~2,000 cals of carb storage compared to 40,000(?) cals of fat).
Anyway, the book addresses recovery, using ultra long distance runners and bikers. I do not recall for sure (just my poor memory), but I dont think they referenced any requirement for recovery drinks/snacks - just good eating before and after.
Hope this helps
