"Clean" Keto

My husband and I just started Keto today.  I have heard that there is a version of the keto diet with fewer processed meats, etc.  This is especially  interesting to me because I can't tolerate any type of pork (ham, bacon, etc.).  I also have IBD/colitis and eating veggies regularly and avoiding processed foods seems to help keep me in remission.

Can anyone give me some tips and resources for clean keto?  Thanks!

I can’t help you with the resources but I can say that doing a “clean” version of keto is easy.  It is what I do mostly. I do eat bacon but try to get the more humanly raised uncured/low nitrate stuff.  I use mostly avocado/avocado oil and coconut oils for most of my fats. I don’t buy the “keto” foods you can find in stores cause they still have a bunch of weird things in them a lot of the time. Though I do use Now brand liquid flavored stevia cause really I can’t do black coffee! I don’t eat a lot of cheese or nuts cause it stalls me.

So you can make keto work for you and your needs by tailoring it just to you. No two people’s keto is the same!

I'm doing clean keto, you really don't have to eat the processed stuff.  If you go clean you might need to add like a bullet proof coffee.  When you eat your chicken leave the skin on.  Remember we were all brought up thinking fat was bad and carbs were good, go figures.  Try You-Tube there are a few on there about clean keto.  Good luck!

Roast your own beef and chicken for lunch meats. If you’re already eating clean just continue what you’re doing just up your good fat intake.

  • The food that you make from scrap is the best because you know what  you are putting in it. Good oils, fresh vegetables and good quality meats, that is all you really need. For desserts, I often make myself some jellies with unflavored gelatin - that makes about 2 cups of jelly that I flavor with cream, orange extract or lemon extract or even I make my grandmother's coffee cream recipe (she did not know that this recipe was keto: 1 envelope of unflavored gelatin, 1 cup of heavy cream, 1 cup of coffee + a sweetener to your taste). Believe me, it is delicious and so keto-good for us. Good luck in your journey!!
