Eating enough fat

Hi all. I’m new to this and am just trying to understand the whole fat consumption thing. If I do not reach my fat macro each day will I not get into ketosis?

Welcome to the world of keto!

As for fat consumption: eating less than your fat ‘quota’ each day may - or may not - help with getting in to ketosis.  We’re all different.

But my research tells me that getting somewhat close is good enough - especially at the start when we (typically) have stored that that we want to burn.  That’s where the weight loss comes from.

So at the beginning of things there’s no need to strictly hit your fat number, and if you’re under a bit (I found at least 2/3 of my fat number got/kept me in ketosis and helped burn stored fat).   Think of it this way: your body needs X amount of energy to sustain itself.  You can get it all from what you eat, or all from stores, or a combination of the two.  100% eaten; say for example, 66% eaten and 33% stored, etc.) Less fat consumed tends to mean more stored fat burned.

My experience - and research - tells me that as we move forward and lose a lot (most?) of our stored fat, eating more fat becomes more necessary as there’s less stores to make up and dietary shortfalls.

So there’s no need to ‘hit’ your fat number - staying a little below is helpful, particularly as you start.

    I hope this makes sense.

    Good luck and Keto on!
