5 weeks

I've been on this diet for 5 weeks & still haven't lost weight. I'm watching my macos & keep my carbs under 15. Is it possible Keto isn't for me?   So disappointed!! My clothes feel tighter.

It is possible the keto diet isn't for your body make up/DNA. If you research "Keto, no wieght loss, DNA connection" you can find info related to the topic that might help you suss out if the diet is genetically right for you.

But it is also important to keep in mind it isn't just carbs you need to keep an eye on, you also need to stay under the allotted calorie amount for your age/weight/gender.

You can stay under 15 carbs forever but, if you aren't watching your calorie intake (keeping an eye on fat macro as well as protein macro) and creating some sort of caloric deficit, you won't loose weight and may even find yourself gaining while using the keto diet method.

VickP Thanks Vick.  I was using the macros this app set up for me & was being good. I will look up the site that you gave me about DNA. Thank you so much for answering.

Most welcome. The search words I left will give you a variety of results to look thru.

I feel for you, I really do.

I have seen how maddening and frustrating working the diet like a religion, faithfully, then having it flop.... first hand.

I'm watching my youngest daughter(mid 30's) do her best to work the diet but for her, it's just not the Holy Grail people claim it to be. She can get into ketosis, she is loosing..but it is in ounces not pounds. She has some female related health issues that aren't helping matters of weight loss and that adds to her frustration. It took her a while to start showing a weight loss, trying to recall, I think she was about 11 weeks in before she started seeing a dip on the scale. She's used the keto diet off and on for about three years now...this time...she's set on finding out if it works and if it doesn't what will.

She has 100 lbs too loose, on her 4'11" frame...she might as well be looking at loosing 1,000 lbs and THAT isn't helping.

I'll tell you what I tell her:

DO NOT beat yourself up if it isn't working for you.... if you are working the diet right.

One thing we are looking into right now is getting diet genome testing done. Some say it is junk science...but 10-15 years ago...they said the same thing about Atkins which seems to have birthed the revised version of keto now days. (Which spawned from a diet for epileptic seizures, I believe back in the mid 1940's)

Consider getting a book titled "The Obesity Code" and read it with a highlighter in hand so you can note things that strike a chord with you. What strikes a chord, hit google and do the research. If need be, seek medical assistance and be informed so you can help any professional help you.

This book made my youngest daughter see she is NOT a failure nor is she a slob and unmotivated. Sometimes our bodies don't comply with our demands. That's not failure, that's biology.

Getting to the root of the "why it won't" is gonna go a long way to helping you feel more in charge of the whole process.

Hang in there and don't give up, there's an answer out there...you just may have to wade thru some muck to find it.

(And not a professional in diet or med field by a long shot, just a really big bibliophile geek who collects and loves to read the info and then bug the day lights out people I know who are professionals..LOL)

I’ve been using the CM app for a year now and have found that - for me - it tends to allow me too much across all macros and calories.

To make it work, I’ve had to downgrade my level of physical activity (found in ‘Settings’) to ‘Lightly Active’ just to keep my calorie allowance down.  This rather than the ‘Very Active’ that I am...  and even though I’m at my weight goal, I’ve found that I have to keep my macros cranked way down to ‘-24% Calorie Deficit’.  When I set the calorie deficit to Zero (weight maintenance), I start packing the weight on.

So I figure that while the CM app’s algorithms are set for the masses, individually we might have to fuss with them to make it work for us.   My A1C has dropped from 7.7 to 5.0 with associated improvements in cholesterol, and weight from 275 to 200 so I’m not complaining about the results.

Hope this helps and good luck!
