No weight loss after a week

After nearly a week, I haven’t lost any weight.  Should I just be patient? Does it sometimes take longer for some? I’ve stayed within my macros, I’ve been very careful. I’m convinced there’s something wrong with me and no matter what I do, I’ll never lose weight.  Has anyone one else struggled like this?

Sandy Hi Sandy, good question.  I don't know for sure, my guess is to say not if you can help it but once in a while shouldn't hurt any progress.  Essentially, we're all trying to squeeze all our calories into that 6-8 hour eating window.  My fear is that if you have a bulletproof coffee at 10pm then you're going to bed and what's burning the fat?  You're sleeping.  I'd err on the safe side and keep the big calories to the main eating window of time, noon to 6 or 3-9 whatever works for your life, but beyond that minimize to just some cream in your coffee if you can help it.  I guess if you had a pile of tunafish or steak and got way over on your proteins and need to balance out your day and it is late, yes have a bulletproof coffee to balance the proteins, but don't make that a habit.  That no eating window is the engine of the whole weight loss thing.

I am extremely frustrated. I’m very diligent and stay within my macros and I’ve only lost a wee bit the first week, even though (according to the urine strips), I’ve been in keto for 5 days at least. I watch sugar alcohols closely and only only consume Erythritol (very little). I reach my step goals every day. I’m about to give up because I cannot understand what I could be doing wrong when I’m being so picky about getting all my macros correct😞

Supermom  yeah I would never drink coffee that late. I more than likely wouldn’t drink coffee after 3 pm. I was talking of the keto coffee when I get up and head to work at 7am   Today I put it in my insulated drink cup and left it in my car and drank it on my 10am break. Worked well

Sandy Hi, after I replied, I re read what you had asked and was a bit embarrassed.  late night bleary eyes!  Yes, that's just fine, you can have more than one coffee a day even, and at any time of day you like, anything you like in it as long as you log absolutely everything, the carb manager will guide you to success.  It really made this "idiot proof" for me!  Carry on Sandy all the way baby all the way!

Supermom  hi!  I’m new here - day 11 today.  Started at 5’10” 171 lbs.  lost 7 lbs the first week!  I know it’s just water but still 😊.  Anyways, I work out quite a bit and am using the “net calorie” model everyday.  Because of that, I am finding that I am going over on my macros, but my net calories are still well below my daily goal (I have a - 35% deficit set). When I say I’m going over on macros, I am still keeping net carbs at or below (usually well below), keeping my protein mostly below or at, and using mainly fat as an outlet to go higher on.  Is this a correct approach?  With my quite aggressive workouts, I find I really do need more calories (provided by using “net calories” vs. “total calories”) or else I feel very unwell (lightheaded, head aches, extreme fatigue).  What are your thoughts on my strategy here?  You mention to ignore calories and focus only on macros, but you must be following a “total calories” model for that.  Please advise - thanks!

beccal1 Hi and welcome to keto!  I think you pretty much answered your own question.  You can't work out like a maniac AND set a -35% calories deficit.  That's the setting for those of us sitting on our duffs like me.   If you're working out that creates your deficit right there.  So set your calories deficit to 0 or maybe 5%.  Play with it.  Also you cannot go under 1000 calories a day and that's net of your exercise calories burned so mind that.   If you work out to try to lose weight, stop working out and keep your deficit at -35%.  But if you just love working out (weirdo!) then reduce the deficit ie eat more.  You're correct on your macros as stated you got this.  Good luck!

TLF I never bothered with the urine tests.  I'd say go into your settings, click on Macros at the top and check your calories deficit slider and ensure its slid to the left assuming you're not a workoutaholic of course.  Drink water and get a good nights sleep and hit your fats targets and weigh all your foods accurately.  Hard to give any advice with no real information.  Stay the course just keep to 5% carbs 25 protein and 70 fats and it works like a charm.

TLF 2 things.  Turn "Deduct Calories When I Exercise" to on if you're a workout maniac.  Next thing.  When you first go to Settings look at the very top.  There are tabs called Settings, My Profile, Macros, Diet Goals etc.  They look greyed out but they're active.  Click on Macros.  There you will find your calories deficit controller.  Slide it left.  Also - your carbs should be 16g from what I see above, so come closer to that don't try to beat the system.

SandraM Day 1 was July 29, 2019.  Most of it was off by Mid-end of March.  Call it 8 months ish.  Then the last 3-4 lbs took for-ever!  But I just said I'm happy enough and committed to staying on keto for life, and today I'm 135.0 and right this second am in MY DAUGHTER'S JEANS!!!! omg!!!!!!  Don't know who is more shocked, me or my kids!  Feeling like I could conquer the world!  Sandra you can totally do this.  The commitment is cooking all your own food, no eating out.  It's expensive to eat out and it will just mess you up and sidetrack you.  Learn to make a good pizza crust.  Mine is to rice a head of cauliflower and toast that in an electric frying pan til its light and fluffy and brown, cool it, add 1 cup asiago cheese shredded, and an egg.  Plus salt and a bunch of herbs of course.  Bake on 350 on the bottom rack of the oven is key for 20 mins.  Cool  for half an hour or longer it has to be completely cooled.  Then top it with whatever sauce and veg I feel like.   Bake it on 400 maybe 10-12 mins. Pizza!  Love it.  But you need 1.5 - 2 hours to make a pizza so planning is the key to keto.  Hamburgers and good too.  Go for it Sandra you'll never look back to 99 cent bread or rice ever again...why the hell did we get sucked into that?

Supermom Congratulations!! 135lb, and in your daughter’s jeans - what an achievement!!  Hats down, woman! Thanks for the tip and the cauliflower pizza recipe. Tell me please, did you do intermittent fasting when you started? All the damage I do happens in the evenings. I am in control until around 8pm, and then I start uncontrollably eating everything I was avoiding by then. I am not sure if limiting time window will help me or not... Thanks for the encouragement. I must do this!

SandraM Hi Sandra, the IF is the key to the whole thing.  Stuff your face between noon and 6pm give or take, but after dinner just have more tea and coffees.  Do this for yourself you'll love what it does for you.  I used to be a popcorn addict in the evenings/night time too.  I get it.  But I truly hated where that took me.  So don't let the pidgeon drive the bus.  You drive.  And thanks for the kudos what a smile that gives me!  You can do it too I'm not special.
