New

My name isTeressa Carpenter, I’m new to this program. I’m not sure what Keno diet is. I have just found out that I’m a diabetic. I need to learn how to cut the carbs. Dr told that I shouldn’t have more than 20 gm per day.  I have looked and even vegetables have more than 20 gms. So how I am I’m supposed to get more carbs than I’m suppose to have per day? Any suggestions are welcome

Hi. First off, I need to suggest you consult with your doc about keto and what they expect. Then do some research about ketogenic diets. Form your own opinion after reading and watching videos or listening to podcasts. Without knowing if your type 1 or 2, etc, be careful with advice on here. I'm not sure if your on insulin or anti diabetic meds, but that is something to be cautious about when your taking those and not consuming any sort of carbs. These forums are for encouragement of weight loss, tips and tricks, what we eat, shall there be no direct medical advice from anyone but to encourage you to consult with a nutritional consultant if they say you should be ketogenic or low carb. There are diebetics here however, know what your doing so to not cause more harm than good. There are probably a million questions I could ask but please get educated on keto. It's a lifestyle that needs attention to what and how much we ingest. Once you understand what you need to do, and can do, we are here for dietary tips, and encouragement. I hope that helps. Ketogenic can be beneficial for everyone from what I have researched. If you hit a keto flu we are here for you also. 😊

Absolutely in agreement with badmojomn  ketogenic diets are used to control /help with some diabetes but as already said, education & discussions with your health care professionals are the only way to go. Here we tend to measure net carbs for example looking at the carbs of a vegetable then minus the fibre carbs as we can’t process the whole of the vegetable in our body. So yes you get plenty of vegetables 😀 for your net 20g . Most of us eat no sugar or artificial sweeteners either. Lots to red about, scary when first diagnosed.
