Keto and Pregnancy

Hi Everyone, I recently found out I am pregnant, and now am deciding how to go about adjusting my diet. I had only been on keto about three weeks when I found out we were expecting. Any thoughts on staying in a modified version of keto / what to set macros at?

This is my second pregnancy and I’m looking to not gain as much weight as I did the first time around.

  • Maria Emmerich has written many books and gives advice on Keto and pregnancy.  I would look her up online. Congratulations!

  • Congratulations! I would definitely discuss this with your doctor before going forward. While i certainly would not advocate continuing a diet that is unhealthy such as fast foods and no vegetables, i would be very leary about starting one that MAY lead to a very significant drop in weight so quickly and leads to so much initial water water loss.  Perhaps its something you could ease into by slowly reducing carbs. I have been eating like this for a year and have lost alot of weight fairly quick. I never went through the "keto flu" and felt and still do feel great. However i initially lost alot of water weight and my hormones and periods were very wacky for a few months. If i became pregnant now i would definitely continue to eat this way, however it is not something i would have continued had i became pregnant in those first few months. Everyone is different however, my reaction to the diet in the beginning certainly isnt everyone. Enjoy yourself, focus on eating healthy and staying active
