It's tough staying on track everyday!

I've  only been doing keto For almost 2wks. I'm 45, 5'4" 170lb & want to lose 30lbs. All last week I did great- coffee w/coconut oil & ghee, egg/kale/bacon/cheese cups w/half avocado everyday for brkfst, tuna w/full fat mayo stuffed in tomato over spring mix & drizzled w/lots of olive oil & 1/2 avocado for lunches, dinners =meat- bison, steak, chicken or shrimp cooked in ghee, sautéed kale in ghee- snacks=almonds & string cheese. Did that Mon- Fri afternoon & no weight loss- Friday night my BF came home w/pizza & I caved & had 3 pieces. Sat morning & lunch did good but then had about 1/2 cup of Mac n cheese w/my smoked sausage for dinner. Sunday got back on track & all this week have been eating great again like last week and still not 1 lb lost :-(

How long does it typically take to start losing? Can eating just 1 1/2 bad meals during 2 weeks really throw you off that much?! So frustrating! I've given up my Malbec wine every night too, which is huge for me. I haven't had a lot of energy to workout per say but still managing to get 10k steps a day. Wondering if i need to start trying vigorous workouts everyday too to start seeing any weight loss?! I'm 6 months post-op from total right hip replacement too so can't get too vigorous yet with my workouts.

I'm a little frustrated already. Anyone have any good advice, tips, etc. to talk me off the ledge?! Lol!

Hi Tricia!  You sound like me!  I’m about 2 weeks in and I’ve only lost 3 lbs.  I downloaded an app for the treadmill which I love (Apptiv- trainer in one ear, DJ in the other. Very fun and you can filter workouts.). Anyway I only walk or jog on the treadmill a couple times a week. I’m trying to focus on the weights because muscle burns more calories (energy) and too much cardio can work against you.

Anyway, I’ve also searched the web for Keto recipes and printed the ones that sounded good and I have them in a 3-ring binder. So far my family has loved them.  I’ve also made a Keto shopping list and meal planner which has been very helpful.

Back away from the ledge, Tricia! You can do this!!

  • laurab203 thank you! Seems like you & I should've lost more than that in 2 weeks when I read everyone else's progress in that amount of time. Sounds like  you're on the right track with the treadmill and meal planning.

I don't really have trouble with meal planning- I've saved a ton of recipes & grocery lists on Pinterest and i love to cook and I understand the whole concept of fat/protein/carb ratio, it's just a little hard to stick to when pizza is put in front of my face & frustrating when you've done it for a couple weeks with no results and feeling tired & cranky from no carbs! I've told my BF don't ever bring pizza home again! Eat it before you get home! Lol! I'm making a chicken pizza recipe I found on Pinterest for the Super bowl. The no red wine sucks too- I normally have 1-2 glasses each night. I've switched to 1 1/2 shots Woodford Reserve bourbon over ice every few nights here and there. It's only 65 calories & no carbs but definitely miss my wine! This all better be worth it! Haha!!

    Good luck in your journey!!

That’s funny. I love pizza too. There is a great “Deconstructed Pizza Casserole” recipe we are trying tonight.

I think people who loose more right away might be people who just had different eating habits. I had been trying to stay away from breads and pastas before so maybe my cravings have not been as bad as some people. Everyone has different body chemistry. Plus I’ve been working with weights and muscle weighs more than fat. So I feel stronger and my tummy is visibly different but the scale so far remains the same, except for the 3 lbs from the beginning.

I’m definitely going to keep going. I met a personal trainer recently and told her “it was time to loose the baby weight. He is 16 now.”    - she is about 23 so looked at me weird and gave an awkward laugh.

The logic of doing this lifestyle makes sense and I don’t feel deprived. I feel very motivated. I hope we have huge successes!

PS  - I still have a glass of red wine. I’ve just decided it’s a weekend thing now.  🍷

  • laurab203 yum! That pizza casserole sounds delish! I'll have to look that up!

I actually ate relatively healthy before as well - no bread or pasta, I'm not a sweets person at all, only drink coffee, water & wine & we stay away from processed foods. So most of the time it's a lot of protein & veggies anyway but we did have risotto once a week , potato once a week & White or brown rice with a stir fry once or twice a week and I love avocado toast for breakfast so I was eating a slice of wheat bread several days a week. We might have pizza once or twice a month. Snacks have always been cheddar cheese & triscuits & simply all natural white cheddar cheese puffs which aren't too bad per serving & my wine. So no great eating but not horrible either.

I need to get back into weights as well- I only do them 2-3 times a week and mostly upper body since I can only do resistance bands right now for lower after my hip surgery but getting stronger so should be able to start light weights for lower soon. That's cool you have a trainer! At 23, I can picture the look on her face- she has no clue yet what aging & kids do to a body!! I have a full gym at home so I just head downstairs to do my treadmill, elliptical & weights but I do miss a gym environment and having other people around for motivation.

Well have a great weekend and hopefully I'll stay in track this weekend and not cave to temptations! Sounds like you won't have any problem with that!!
