Exercise altering number on scale?

Hi all,

i have been on this diet for five days now. I used urine strips to check if I was in ketosis last night and  apparently I am, although on the scale I haven’t lost anything...I’ve still been working out religiously to try and kick start the weight loss, but I feel it’s doing the opposite. What’s happening?

  • I always find that increase in exercise can affect weight in 2 ways.  One is muscle weighs more than fat.  The other is that my body seems to retain more water in reserves for sweating. Nothing scientific about this but my opinion. HTL

  • Dear Isabelamanda,

I agree with Wihlborgccda.  When you are building muscle your weight loss will be slower but you will look better sooner.  Muscle weighs more so as you build your body your weight lose might not show as quickly.  You may find that your are losing inches though.  I would do the exercise but am not allowed as I have a herniated disk in my back and no rowing machine for me which is the only exercise machine I love.  I think you will be happy with your results as I am losing weight but not putting on much muscle—-I will not look as good as you, as you will have lots of beautiful muscle.

    Sincerely,

    Beverly Avery
