Question regarding protein

I’m the one who started keto and my mom started a week after me, so I’ve been the one meal planning and trying to help her figure out what to eat everyday. She’s struggled with maxing out her protein or even being a little over and not reaching her fat goal. She’ll be close to the fat, but in order to reach that sometimes, she’s got to add more protein. What are some foods that I can suggest that are lower protein but high fat. Breakfast would usually consist of eggs or turkey bacon (because of less calories), a salad for lunch with ranch. And dinner could be 80/20 ground beef or something else.

Thanks

Salmon and sardines are my favourite.   I also love brie cheese.  All amazing with leafy salads and infused oil drizzled ontop.   What a great kid u r to encourage n help your mom.

Matt please don't worry about the calories so much-eat REAL bacon. Go over to Maria Emmerich or Dr. Ken Berry YouTube videos. You should focus hitting ur protein and not worry so much about the fat macro...let your body tap into your stored fat stores for that;). Hope this is helpful!

MCT oil is a great way to up fat without adding carbs or protein. I add it to my morning coffee along with heavy whipping cream. I'm only a week in and am finally feeling like I can fast in the mornings now so often what I planned to eat for breakfast I actually have for lunch. Definitely have her do real bacon like auelmen suggested too. It's great that you have your mom to do this with!

  • To the best of my knowledge, protein really should remain moderate. You can kick yourself out of ketosis if you have too much protein. Follow the ratio given as much as possible.  Also, if you need more fat, try sprinkling a teaspoon of MCT oil or coconut oil over anything you eat. I always start my day with it in my coffee. I know you can get coconut oil anywhere and I got my MCT oil from Amazon. I primarily use MCT oil, (medium chain triglycerides) which gives me a ton of energy and has so so so many benefits for your system - known to be called "coconut oil on steroids" :-) Both of these oils are listed in Carb Manager here so I recommend you check them out. MCT oil has "saved" me a few times..... now I love the stuff. I too do only one meal a day but my intermittent fasting is approx. 12 hours - breaking it with my morning coffee with the MCT oil & butter in it. Good luck!!

P.S. I too follow Dr. Berg on YouTube. I have watched so so so many videos and he seems to be the most to the point of particular interest and very understandable.

MCT oil, coconut oil, heavy whipping cream, butter, cheese, sour cream, avocado, nut butters.  Fatty nuts like pecans, walnuts, macadamias, brazil.  Fatty meats like bacon, pork, salmon.  Salami, pepperoni, proscuito, antipasti.  Olives.  Fat Bombs.  Don't eat lots of low calorie food, eat great tasting high calorie food and less of it.  The fat will fill you up.

I posted a similar question a few days ago and Moondrake responded with a tip. I'll add a link to the post below.
It's wonderful that you're supporting your mom (aka Keto Buddy). #bettertogether
