Keto Diet: NOT so healthy?

The keto diet is therefore an extreme form of low-carbohydrate eating. It is a popular diet among people who want to lose a lot of weight in the short term by drastically limiting carbohydrate intake.

If short-term weight loss is your goal, ketogenic eating can be a solution. The keto diet is therefore suitable for a lot of weight loss in the very short term.

However, there are some negative points about this diet. A body in the state of ketosis causes:

- Weight loss due to excessive urination or excessive sweating
- Stinky breath.

Moreover, ketogenic food does not solve your long-term health problems. It will actually cause more risks to your health.

These problems are mainly caused by the large number of fats and animal products that must be eaten within a keto diet in order to get enough "replacement fuel", and the lack of a healthy amount of carbohydrates and proteins in the diet that you eat.

So I think a healthy diet and sports is essential to maintain weight.

  • Hummm, I look at a ketogenic diet as a healthy lifestyle. Not a short term thing. I also enjoy an alkaline diet. The two are different, but I like to incorporate a lot of alkaline foods into my keto eating. Animal protein is always organic, grass fed, or wild caught. My fats are plant based, coconut, olive oil, & avocado. I rarely do dairy. Then a tremendous amount of greens, peppers, & other roughage. It’s delicious & nutritious! 🤪

SDG   that’s your opinion and you’re welcome to it.  A lot of folks might disagree; there’s a plethora of solid medical science that informs a better opinion.  A Ketogenic diet has been medically proven time and again to reduce - and in some cases (of which I’m one) - to completely reverse diabetes, lower cholesterol, and lower blood pressure; to absolutely ‘solve your long-term health problems.’  In my opinion, THAT’s the true benefit of this diet, although weight loss is a pleasant experience as well.

If you’re truly interested in learning something about the keto diet from a scientific perspective, I’d highly recommend ‘The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living’ by Drs Jeff Volek and Stephen Phinney.  It’s well researched and documented, and I hope you would find it enlightening. They’re also on YouTube, and you can google Virtahealth to find their business (I’m NOT a customer) where they have a plethora of medical case studies to back up what they say - either way, they can explain things very well and give all the medical science behind the scenes.

Hope this helps put you at ease.

I agree with Pat f .. There are lots of food that contain healthy fats such as nuts and avocado . I have no problem balancing my proteins , fats and carbs . Another health benefit other than what Pat mentioned was the reduction in inflammation . Mine has significantly reduced .

I drink a lot so I do have excess urine but I don't and never had stinky breath . You don't mention if you have tried it or not . It may not be for everyone but it certainly has helped many .
