Wine and weight loss. Coincidence?
Like everyone else after the first little while my weight loss has been slow. But I've noticed that every time I "cheat" by having a glass of dry white wine I wake up with a 1b loss the next morning. Anyone else experience this?
Could it be that I'm not eating enough carbs? And the wine makes up for it? I average about 10g a day. It just doesn't make any sense....

Wine has a lot of carbs. If your sticking to the net carb all week what’s the damage in a glass of wine? For me, I drink 0 carb alcohol, and I get back into ketosis next evening. And get this, just experienced somewhat of a whoosh effect. I was swelled up from something possibly from my keto friendly coffee cake and mixed with some keto friendly chocolate I have been having a few squares in each evening. I quit those , whoosh the finger bloat went down in two days now.

MM You haven’t researched? I think that was the first thing I started to look up. Vodka, whiskeys, most rums, etc. I drink spiced rums in a soda called zevia. It’s made with stevia and I’m still in ketosis the next day. Albeit it is not helping my stalls though. For me alcohol is hard to avoid on the weekends with friends but the first month or more I really avoided it.

One thing to keep in mind when drinking alcoholic beverages one the keto diet: When you ingest alcohol, your body burns the alcohol before it starts burning any of the food you eat. So if you are doing the diet for benefits other than weight-loss, go for it. But if your focus is weight loss, just remember that you are basically stalling your body when you have any alcohol, 0 carb or not!

Badmojomn I completely agree to living life! You have to love what you do, to do it right! :) Just sharing some facts I've learned. Everyone's journey is different. Keeping track of how your body reacts, how you feel the next day, and how it affects your progress always helps me personally in making my next cheat day decisions!

Some wines have more carbs than others. Some alcohol affects you differently than others even if it has lower carbs. For me I can have zero carb liquor and it affects me differently than if I just have my glass with 3 carbs of red wine. I'll gladly save extra carbs for a glass of wine here and there.

abeowski6289 Alcohol causes dehydration, I should have added, so if you have some cocktails or low carb beers, the reason why a person might be down in “pounds” the next day would be due to dehydration effects. Believe me, when I had weighed in one Sunday morning and was down three pounds ( this was when I was weighing myself each morning and have now quit), it was dehydration. The fluids I drank the next day basically proved it, lol!

Keto experts often recommend people to consume 20 to 50 grams of carbs a day. The number of carbs in alcoholic beverages may vary. For instance, beer contains the highest amount, while some spirits contain none or low in carb. If the Carb contains is less I guess alcohol on the keto diet should not be a problem.
Have you checked the card contain in your white wine? -
Its complicated and individuals are different. My blood glucose spikes at night as my body prepares a feast of insulin to feed me the next day. My doctor had actually suggested a glass of dry wine at bed time to maybe trick my body into not producing the spike. Woe is me, it didn't work. The point is that keeping a tight watch on your metrics can help determine what you can get away with. I find ketones, blood glucose (type 2 diabetic) a measuring tape and the scale to be my best metrics.
