Reclaiming my health & independence keeps me motivated. I was dependent on a walker & powerchair for 7 years due to rheumatoid arthritis.

I’ve lost 106lbs and walk 3-6 miles everyday. Keto works for me.

I keep it simple with meat & veggies plus coffee with heavy cream. My husband does low carb instead of keto around 80 net carbs and requires Keto baked goods.

That’s the beauty. You can design Keto or low carb to fit what satisfies you.

  • What Withrow Urban Homestead said, plus, I don’t really need motivation. Eating this way has tamed my appetite and I honestly feel like I could do this forever. You will feel this way too, I’m sure, once you give up those foods that stimulate your appetite.

  • 1. Make sure you record what you eat everyday and try to stay under your carb allowance. I can't be bothered tracking, so what I do instead is create a meal plan for the day, week and sticking to that. Carb manager has many meal plans you can choose from. The meal plans are customised to fit your own macros and you can chop and change the meals if you don't like a paticular one. This makes it easier for my budget and cuts down on food wastage.

    2. Find some easy, yummy receipes and cook them over and over.  If you like to snack, then make some fat bombs and carry them with you.  Think about what foods you usually eat and find the keto version of it.  No need to eat dry bland food on keto.  If you don't like something, don't make it again.  You should enjoy everything you eat. No need to find motivation when you make yummy food that appeals to you.

    3. Don't change everything at once.  Some people try to do keto, fasting and heavy exercise all in the first week. This puts a lot of stress on your body. You want keto to be enjoyable, not a burden.  First month just concentrate meeting your carb and fats macros then if you want to experiment with fasting or exercise do it.

    4. It's recommended to walk atleast 30 minutes a day.  You don't need to do anymore exercise than this.  However if you are usually a heavy exerciser than you may need to increase your carb intake.  On days you don't feel like going for a walk, don't.  Think long term.

    5. Make sure you are taking enough sodium, potassium and magnesium to avoid cramps and keto flu. Drink when you are thirsty.

    6.  You are going to muck up. There will be days where you are out with friends, or you have a down day and you say stuff it, I'll have a coke. The next day just go back to keto.  As the weeks pass you will learn more and more.  Always think long term.  A few stuff ups will not hurt and does not make you a failure.  This also goes for plateaus as well.

    7. Make sure you are getting adequate sleep and watch your stress levels.  Lack of sleep can interfere with weight loss.

    8. If you are going to weigh yourself, do it the same time and day every week.  Preferably weigh yourself in the morning, before you have something to eat, and after your have gone to the toilet. Many people on here freak out as they weigh theirselves everyday and wonder why their weight has gone up.  Weight changes daily depending on the fluid and waste in your body.

    9. Enjoy the process.  Get your friends involved, participate on the forums here. Watch YouTube, join blogs, share receipes. Have fun and enjoy all the yummy food.
