Not Losing :-(

Hi All! I’m new to the community so hoping to get your thoughts.

I’m about a week into Keto and so far I haven’t lost any weight - in fact I think I’ve gained half a pound. For some background, I’ve tracked all of my macros and have typically stay at 8-15 net carbs a day. My calories are around 1000-1250. I usually come close to my fat and protein goals. I’m 5 feet and looking to lose about 40 pounds. I try to weight life at least three times a week, though I had to lift lighter weights due to dizziness and muscle weakness this week. I used ketone strips and got a “moderate” result so I’m in Ketosis.

Any thoughts on why I haven’t seen any weight loss? I’m at the very end of my period, so maybe that’s the culprit? I’m not sure I was expecting the dramatic weight loss I read about here, but seeing no weight loss at all despite diet and exercise is frustrating...

  • You need to give your body a chance to adjust to the changes.  I'm sure some of that is water weight from menstruation.  Also if you are lifting, you could be gaining muscle.  It's better to track your macros daily and only weigh in about every one to two weeks.  The scale is not the only measure for success.  You should also feel a difference in how your clothes fit.  I have lost between 30 to 35 pounds since December.  I say 30 to 35 because my weight can fluctuate 3 to 5 pounds on any given day.  If you are going to use the scale as your primary unit of measure, make sure you are weighing yourself the same way every time and during the same time of day.  I usually do it first thing in the morning after I have urinated and without clothes.  So, one week is not long enough to tell whether this will work for you.  Don't fall for the outrageous claims of some marketing gimmicks.  Everyone is different and everyone has different results.  Give it 30 days.  If you lose 5 pounds, you are doing great.

I’m new also as of this week. I started a loose Keto diet last week but knew I was going to blow it on the 4th so my start date was the 5th. I’ve hit all of my macros each day but don’t think I’ve lost any weight at all. I also could only lift about 1/4 of the weight today that I usually can. I just felt weak and was visibly shaking trying to get things going.  I’m a guy so I don’t have the mensuration frustration that you ladies have to deal with.

Hopefully things start to pick up soon. I need some keto strips. Thanks for the reminder and good luck!

Thank you! I’m going to keep at it. Guess I just needed to vent and hear the encouragement. It’s hard to stick to the diet when you’re not seeing the weight loss or experiencing the benefits a lot of others seem to get almost immediately.
