Feeling Tired

Hi all.. on week 8 of Keto and down 16 pounds.  My macros are 1200 cal, 15 net carbs, 65 protein and 96 fat.

1) The last couple of weeks I was feeling great and had alot of energy. This week I am constantly tired, sleepy and having difficulty focusing especially when I get home from work.  I am getting enough sleep and supplementing.  I am hitting my macros pretty close except for the calories which is around 8-900.     Is this feeling normal so far into Keto?

2) I have plateaued at my current weight. Is there  anything to boost the weight loss besides exercising and IF?

Up your hydration. Consume sole water. This is generally because your body is holding on to the water because you aren’t drinking enough. Sole water is a brine of Himalayan salt that you add to a regular glass of water. This will improve our hydration levels and help to keep the water in. If you aren’t drinking almost a gallon a day (for most people), you aren’t consuming enough.

tjf331 lowcarbdieter4a5a I don’t want to interrupt your thinking, but a gallon of water a day can actually be dangerous for some. Please use extreme caution when suggesting to people to drink a gallon a day. This isn’t my own personal opinion.  I would up my calories a little just for the time being  to 1200  if you have to use a Keto friendly food to do that it’s okay, but your calorie count seems really low.  If I had to put money on the table, and your hitting your viatimin nutrients, it’s a keto flu from hell still going on, as I have personal experience with this even 8 weeks in.  Do not focus on weight loss until you are feeling better, and I can’t say to you I would IF right now, eat Keto, when this passes, go back to IF. Minimal water intake is also at ones thirst, but gauge at 64 fluid water ounces, and do not count coffee.  If you need more, drink more, extreme amounts of water can flush everything about your essential minerals right out of your body, and guess what, it won’t matter if your hitting those nutrient numbers and your over watering yourself, so please use caution and your own best judgement.

Here is my own personal experience, similar to lowcarbdieter, simply fat adaption is possible still taking place. However, to the OP, please make sure your taking in minimally 3500 -4500 mg of potassium. I had a rough long road of fat adaption similar to your symptoms, possibly horridly worse. I went to the doctor, I thought I was in a grave condition. Everything checked out okay.  Have a little more carbs in form of berries in the evening, and or try some mct.  If you feel terribly as bad as I did, make appt for doc just to make sure everything is okay and hopefully labs will show this.

  • 1200 calories isn't a lot, depending on your height and weight. You might be at a plateau because your body is going into starvation mode. If you restrict your calories too much, your body will hold onto everything because it can't handle the stress you are putting on it by not giving it enough energy. Do you know what your TDEE is? For most people it's at least 1400, which means you need at least 1400 calories for basic body functions (as if you were bed-ridden and couldn't move at all), and when you add daily activities your body will need more than just TDEE. Have you tried a calorie calculator to see what your calorie requirements are based on your activity level? bodybuilding.com has a good one: https://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/macronutcal.htm
