Total carbs or net carbs?

Hi, I’m not understanding which to follow? I have 16 grams of total carbs but 215 grams of net carbs and I don’t understand which I’m supposed to pay attention to? I’m over on my total carbs but under in my net carbs? Somebody please help!

Wow! Something's wrong, as it isn't possible to have 16 total carbs with 215 net carbs. You need to look at your settings and your data entry and see if you can figure out what went wrong. In answer to your question, there are different schools of thought, but I believe in tracking primarily net carbs and just keeping an eye on total carbs as fiber is necessary to gut health, generally indigestible and doesn't affect your weight.

Hi Moondrake Moondrake Thank you for your answer! Yes you are right, it seems it was backwards but now has sorted itself out. Also I’m only on day three and I had put the option to ease into the diet so my carbs are much higher for the moment. I’m having serious gut issues though and I had my gall bladder removed three years ago, I don’t think this high fat diet is doing me any good, I’m in lots of pain every time I eat :-( maybe a lower fat ratio would be better for me!

Make sure to decrease your carbs if you want to get into Ketosis. Less than 20 grams net carbs is what is recommended for weight loss. If you’re just starting out it’s not the easiest to drop to 20 immediately so you can go from where you’re at which is about 50nc and dropping it by 10 every few days to get to 20nc or less. It will take your body a little longer to get into Ketosis but it’s not just a shock to you.

Also do you don’t want to lower your fat ratio it is what will help to make Keto work. You of course want to keep your carbs low the lower the better, proteins you want to have the exact or lower grams otherwise it can keep you from reaching ketosis, fats will basically make up any difference, fat bombs and mct oil are the easiest to use to get in the fat and not the protein.

  • May I also suggest an ox bile supplement with digestive enzymes, since you don’t have a gallbladder. I am in the same boat as you without my gallbladder, after doing some research, I added the LionHeart Enzyme which I take with my meal, it has helped me tremendously! FYI I purchased mine off Amazon. Good luck
