Day 14, still not in Ketosis

On day 14 and down 17 lbs from a starting weight of 277.  I realize that most of this early weight loss is probably water but I’ll take it!

I’ve remained true to a strict Keto diet with no cheats but disappointed only trace Ketones are showing up in my urine tests.  Carbs are always 5% or lower and I’ve been reducing my protein intake too. I’m pretty sedentary (<5000 steps/day) so I guess that’s next on my to do list. I’m still anxious to be in Ketosis, though.

  • From what I understand urine strips only measures excess ketones. Once you are in Ketosis and fat adapted, the strips are no longer a good measuring tool. Were you checking daily?

Kristie Friars - Yep, every morning w/in 30 minutes of waking up. Since the urine strips never showed anything above trace amounts, I"m skeptical that I became fat adapted that quickly. I'm using the "Nurse Hatty" test strips which come with a vial of Ketone test fluid so I know the strips are still good. Anyway, my new breath meter should be here later today so I'll give that test method a shot. It's no big deal really, but would be nice to know.
