I need help re calories vs carbs please!
Hi! I've been on Keto for a month. I track everything in Carb Manager and I stay below my carb macros. I eat less than 20 carbs almost every day. My calories calls for almost 1200. Sometimes my calories go over at like 1300-1400 calories. I am also breast feeding so I dont get too upset about going over calorie while staying under carbs. I seem to not be losing weight as fast as others though. Could the extra calories be why? I also rarely go over on proteins. I'm doing everything I'm told thru macros lol so what gives? Am I missing something? Starting weight 157 current weight 149

Hi. I’m new to this group but have done keto dieting successfully in the past. I’m thinking your daily calories are too low considering you’re nursing so maybe your body/metabolism is fighting that and a few more calories every day (low to carb free) would actually help—just a theory and I’m certainly not an expert. There’s also the exercise factor (you didn’t mention if you were) but you probably have your hands full with baby. I think a 9 lbs loss is really good for one month so celebrate the little victories even if your weight loss is slower than others..at least it’s going in the right direction 👍

Hi, I'm not a Dr, but a Keto diet should be avoided for pregnant and breastfeeding woman. You need extra calories for your body to produce breastmilk. Your baby is your primary concern now, that don't stay young forever, so enjoy her and get your body in shape afterwards. There's plenty you can do still do, like eating clean and green.

I'm totally opposite. My calories call for 1,012 per day and I have a hard time doing 500-800 calories a day. Is THIS an issue??? I have a restricted eating ability due to lymphatic cancer in neck. With that said, I'm doing well and feeling great on day 32 now. I've lost 12lbs in 28 days. I have Bullet Proof coffee each morning. I hear.... Eat when you are hungry and stop when you are satiated. Trying to build up calories keeping my macros in tact I end up feeling stuffed and just waaaaaaaay too full. Anyone?? Thanks!!

TsMarsh I've READ..... so hear say only .... we were born in ketosis and mother's milk it keto?? When we start feeding the babies pablum etc. that is introducing carbs into their systems at such a very young age and then they become carb adapted and "baby fat" - Like I said... I read it but didn't research it but sort of makes sense???

First and foremost - listen to your body. We are all different. But my first thought in reading your post is that you are eating way too few calories. It's funny, but I do know that your body will fight hard to hold your weight if it thinks it's in starvation mode. And breastfeeding is very calorie-intensive! I would start experimenting with increasing your caloric intake until your body gets to a place where it starts to shed the weight more readily. (plus slower is sometimes more permanent - way to go on what you've lost already!)

Abb Hi.... I am taking in approx 600-800 calories/day (recommended 1,012 on Carb Manager) and have had my concerns about this. With that said, I have lost every week for a total of 13.5 lbs gone in 35 days so "it's" working. I have more energy than ever and feeling great. I just cannot find a thing on too few calories. I understand the whole "starvation mode", however, is that not more of a total metabolism change than an actual "starvation" - People in a protest of sorts that starve themselves don't stop loosing weight - they loose on the metabolism end????? I don't know??!! I'm 57, 5'5" and started at 162lbs. My macros are spot on. I've worked hard to ensure I'm obtaining proper levels of potassium, magnesium etc. Anyone on too few calories???

Joanne I'm not sure on someone who isn't nursing taking in too few calories. The OP situation is different from yours and that's what Abb was responding to. Not sure in your situation. Nursing burns 200-800 or so calories a day, so she needs more calories than others. Usually 1800, no less than 1500 should be about the minimum nursing moms should have, otherwise it can hinder breast milk quality/supply. You should still see a loss with those calorie goals, it just may be a little slower/steadier which is okay!
