Keto breakfast

Hi, I have been on SO many different diets and healthy eating plans and haven’t found one that really suits me so I am giving KETO a go.

Just one question though. I’m struggling for ideas with what to eat at breakfast. I have cut out cereals because they all have way too many carbs and I have tried Greek style natural yoghurt but the carb count is still between 4-5g per 100g... and I at least have 1 cup (250g), meaning that I have already consumed about 10-12.5g of carbs by the morning and that leaves a very narrow leeway for other foods I want to eat throughout the day.

Any suggestions on what foods to eat at breakfast?

First off, have you done a lot of research on ketogenic and low carb diet?  You can essentially eat anything for breakfast as long as it is high fat- mod protein for keto. Low carb is a little different than ketogenic. Before you give a ketogenic lifestyle a "go" you must do a bit of research for the effects and benefits to see if it's right for you or if just cutting back carbs on low carb is right for you. The fat grams and protein percentages can be a little bit different.

What's wrong with bacon and eggs, sausage and eggs, spinach and cheese omelet? I know that cereal eaters may have trouble, but you can get used to it quickly.

I have been eating nature valley bar chewy bars protein ..peanut butter & dark chocolate it has 9 carbs (after you minus the fiber!) but it really keeps me satisfied. They are 190 calories ....then have a cheese stick or cheese  for snack at 10

jhowecin oh ... I can't have that, just the fiber out, that is still too much sugar in it. But I bet they taste great 😜

Being Keto rather than low carb, I started out on bacon, egg, mushrooms & tomatoes but now my favourite is scrambled eggs on organic leaves with either organic avocado or drizzled avocado oil. 😋

badmojomn in total agreement. I started out just knowing no sugar, no artificial sweeteners, no alcohol and carbs only from non starchy veggies ~  sums up what I am still doing but I have learnt & grown so so much thanks to here. 🙌🎉🎉🎉

Joanna Are you still following keto? Did you have your work up? I have to read closer I guess. Your the one with shortness of breath doing the dishwasher? Two weeks is a long ways away😬For your current symptoms.

badmojomn bloods were good, blood pressure good, urgent appointment in UK is within 2 weeks but as all NHS paid..... I can turn up at ER or phone an ambulance if I have an emergency ~ so whilst urgent, not yet an emergency 👍🏻 So yes still Keto, with the drop in LDL & weight, what is not to love? I do sit down often & being very gentle on myself so I don’t turn up my toes suddenly. I used to be a nurse many years ago, so am very conscious of when to phone 999 (911).

    Thanks for asking 😉

Joanna when would you suggest a keto follower to recheck their blood cholesterol levels? I was US standards 267 total cholesterol with a higher cardiac index. Not sure what that would translate to U.K.

Wow that sounds encouraging for a start. I would think at this point to avoid sudden rises in triglycerides until you know what you’re dealing with. These come from large “ sudden” intakes of saturated fat. Although the whole bit on dietary fat and cholesterol is clearly (albeit slowly) being turned around in med science, I’d still avoid these instances in the short term if concerned about my arteries (cardiac, brain, renal - all the same). Good luck and yes pls keto us posted !

3 months at very least after starting any change (diet, exercise or med)

I’d rather give it at least 6 months after starting this - since there is so naturally a variability until one settles into what can be usual for oneself while exploring keto, LC and individual variants.

Good to remember that metabolism itself will vary in response to both long and short term dietary and other environmental changes. A blood draw is just a snapshot along the process and our knowledge/awareness of a result or “number” might persist far longer than the change in blood itself.

hi there - I’ve been just having coffee, sometimes add some MCT (experimenting w this to stave off hunger til about 1pm). Sometimes add 1-2gm net carbs in 1/2 1/2 added to the coffee. Sip on this while rehearing it thru the morning then don’t eat til afternoon. This is the 16:8 Intermittent Fasting (IF) Plan which itself is said to be ketogenic itself - but nothing like this here (!!!!). Some folks have dropped a lot of pounds just doing IF - eat healthy normal 8 hrs per day this way, like 1pm - 9pm which covers late lunch and dinner.

If I’m really hungry though, I’ll eat early so that’s Bkfst - ( then next day back to IF) To respond to ur query - that’ll then be:

2 eggs, cheese, saracha / other hot sauce sometimes with added fish or shrimp left over from night before. Sometimes add some carb lite vegies eg spinach. Or blue cheese dressing. Usual <= 4 net carbs in that.

    Good luck !

badmojomn I had my bloods taken in April & cholesterol was too high. B/P too high. I only cut alcohol in August then went Keto September 1st no known cheats. Already my bloods showed a good improvement I get a print out Tuesday so can give details.... waiting longer makes sense unless for medical reasons you need to be monitored closely.

Joanna I'll wait a few more months. I was in the moderate risk factor area on my levels. I'm really curious how this will bring my levels down. Anxious actually. I love animal fats and if this gets my risk factor down  win win.

Joanna Oh good. This makes me hopeful to have better blood counts. If mine can go down, I would think anyone's can when ketogenic is followed and your successful at it. I'm just so happy I'm finally fat adapted. That was rough for me. I'm carbing up today though with some adult beverages. Keeping it to light beer😊Not the best carb up but I'll swing back to fats in the morning.
