Help

So I have been on keto 10 days. I’m using the carb manager logging every ounce of food and even sugar free coffee creamer I use  and my numbers r spot on and carbs r usually lower that what I’m supposed to have. I’m using MCT oil and have only lost a little over a pound. I’m getting very very frustrated.  I should be losing more and don’t understand why I’m not.  Anyone have any ideas why. I even bought a keto boost powder to use in the middle of the day.  I also check my ketones regularly and I’m usually just in ketosis a small bit it’s never high

Weight loss is real slow for me, too. My doc said it’s because of wacky hormones. All I know to do is stay at it and increase my exercise.

  • Hi Leah - I had the same challenge, but highly recommend the use of a device like FitBit.  I hate exercise, but was astonished at how many calories I utilized even for simple walking.  Once I committed to taking a walk every day, I started to see a difference.  Another thing that helped was daily testing to make sure I was in ketosis.  Hang in there - you're worth it!

  • Had a similar frustrating experience.  After 3 months I'd only lost 10lbs.  Was about to throw in the towel when  "you look skinny" comments started coming my way.   Tried on Jeans 2 sizes smaller and they fit!  So, while the scale was letting me down, the body was shrinking.  Hang in there.

Hi Leah, firstly, throw out that sugar free coffee creamer and buy ordinary cream for your coffee.  It's made of edible oil like palm oil or seed oil which is terrible for you.  Next in the Carb Manager, go into Settings, and at the top there is a tab "Macros".  In there, check that your Calories Deficit is slid all the way to the left which should be about 33%.  This you should do once a month I would say when you enter your new weight so it rejigs your macros and you don't plateau forever.  Took me several months to figure this out...consider it a hot tip!  Don't know if this is your issue but it might just be.  If you're drinking lots of water and sticking like glue to the recommended veggies short list this will work.  It can't miss.  I was fat for 40 years and it has all come off with keto.  All of it.  You can too.  We're all behind you!

  • @supermom.2 is on to something  re avoiding the bad oils like Palm, Canola, Soy, Vegetable, Corn, Cottonseed, Safflower and Grapeseed.  Bottled salad dressings, mayo and most processed foods are loaded with them.  My heart sank when I read the back of the Jiff and Kraft mayo jars.   Has anyone else heard that bad oils stall Keto progress?  Heavy cream in coffee for the win!

  • Hi Leah,  I would have your doctor run a thyroid blood test to check your levels. Mine went haywire after the age of  60 unbeknownst to me, but gaining the weekly weight without calorie uptakes. Hormones really play a part in our weight. Second of all, be an early bird, this helps "wear off some calories" and of course more than 7 hours of sleep always helps.

TLF  I think the answer is no because I do not have premium.  I've been tempted several times, but never signed up and now I'm done dieting so don't need it.  It's got recipes if you want those, but I just prepare super basic foods that really need no recipes.  I do have a few recipes from a book called Easy Keto but I only use 2 recipes out of it - one is waffles (reduce the baking powder if you do this recipe or it oozes out of the waffle iron) and I can't even remember if I do use any other ones.  Diet Doctor has the best hamburger buns recipe in my opinion and that's online free.  Everything else is just salads, stir fried veggies with teriyaki or seasonings and whatever meat is on hand, cheese and crackers, lots of eggs and avos, pretty boring really.  But being thin is a lot more exciting than 10 seconds of tasty pleasure in my book!  Made the choice.  Might expand into real cooking one day...it could happen... :-)

The Ungamer Well, I confess I did use Renee's salad dressings occasionally, and I use Hellman's with Olive Oil in my tunafish.  And I lost the weight.  But I do know those oils are just nasty for your heart, liver etc etc.  Think about it - you squeeze an olive, oil oozes out.  It's about how much processing they go through to extract the oil...the cheap oils are super processed.  The expensive oils like EVOO are gotten with minimal processing.  Stick with avocado oil and coconut oil MCT and EVOO.  Nobody needs canola, or grape seed, or any other seed oils...for what we aren't deep frying anything anymore!  Thanks ungamer for your vote of confidence!
