Gaining weight
I am seriously struggling on keto. I have only been doing it for 14 days and have been in ketosis the entire time(according to urine test strips). I have also been exercising 3 times a week and successfully doing intermittent fasting. My two daily meals consist of a protein, lots of healthy fats, and a keto friendly veg. My problem is that I am consistently gaining weight. 4lbs to be exact. I am trying to take the advice to stay away from the scales but honestly I need some reassurance that I am not doing this for nothing and that there is hope for me to also enjoy the benefits of weight loss.

Don't be discouraged! You just need to figure out what is hindering your progress. Could be too much protein, too many calories, or too many carbs. I count TOTAL carbs and follow the macros in this program and it has been successful for me. One month, almost 11 pounds. Not super fast, but I am very pleased!

Hey,
don’t be disheartened, It happened in my first month. Iv actually been put on a low carb low sugar diet by my doc, she said it’s normal as your body is getting used to
normal fats again. It’s settled down now and hopefully I will see a change in inches when I measure myself again. If you need someone to talk to feel free as I’m feeling a little lost at the moment too.

My two suggestions:
1. seek advise from an expert, try to find a nutritionist who is well versed in the keto diet, some, not sure how many, frown upon that style of diet since it goes against the accepted norms.
2. Try and get some measurable data, ideally blood sugar and blood ketone levels at various times through the day (this can be rather expensive). Alternately keto sticks to test for ketones in the urine, much cheaper but less accurate. Again multiple readings in a day may give some clues as to what is going on.
In the absence of real measurable data all we can really provide is conjecture and suppositions based on our experiences.

It's not muscle...you can't gain 4 lbs of muscle in 14 days. It has to be related to your food intake or some other medical issue. Are you counting calories and all macros in addition to carbs/net carbs? I'm just starting out, but that's what I'm doing to help keep myself from going off the rails with the new "fat freedom" I hadn't really had in the past.

Shannon, something doesn't sound right and I'm surprised no one else will tell you , but it takes 10 to 14 days of no or Lo carbing to get into "ketosis" Let me explain how it works.
Take 5 logs and soak them in water . For a couple days or for as long as you have been eating the way you normally were eating. NOW take them out of the water and put them in a pile , because we are going to light the on fire... So take your little candle lighter (better be a new one) and hold it up to the logs and start them on fire. Oh ! about every hour, pour a cup of water over the pile... But keep trying to light the logs on fire. Do you get the point???
YOU will never get them burning until the have dried out. This is the same as you, as long as you haven't stopped adding carbs, your system will not be able to catch up. If you gained 4 pounds in 14 days then you are eating over 100 carbs a day, period.
If you would like help I will be happy to share some of my secrets.

One of the things that has helped me tremendously, Sugerfree Gelatin Dessert (Jello) only the cheapo one. 39 cents compared to 99 for sugarfree jello. I can't tell the difference, can you? I keep 2 containers going at all times. I buy 30 or 40 boxes when I buy any. Zero carbs but does have Sodium 200 mg per box. Once you are loosing you can put interesting things in the Gelatin... Fruit, wodka, and I put BAI' an ANTIOXIDANT INFUSION 1/2 cup has 3 carbs , makes me feel better.

TW Finkes I got into ketosis within 3 days and according to internet that time period is normal
" It typically takes 2–4 days to enter ketosis if you eat fewer than 50 grams of carbs per day. However, some people may take longer depending on factors like physical activity level, age, metabolism, and carb, fat, and protein intake"

I have gained two pounds, this week. The first week I lost almost 6 pounds. My clothes are looser and I can visually see a difference in my stomach. I bought a tape measure and will be following measurements and not putting as much emphasis on the scale. I have read the scale is your enemy and the tape measure your friend! Hang in there! I feel better eating this way and dont get hungry!

ekmanning56 ekm I'm TW and I can help you if you are "all in" write back and let me know if you want my help. I will ask you the important questions to get you on track...
My scale is my best friend and adviser. I have a good one that I bought at Wallymart. It tells you what you weigh today, and you get off and a 2 comes up than you weigh again and it tell you what you weighed yesterday or the last time you weighed. And shows you how much you lost ( or Gained) and tells you congrats or you are not following the program.
It was around 50 or 60 dollars, and was the best investment I ever made.
