Indigestion

I am on day 9 and starting to get indigestion and the thought of some of the foods i need to eat is kind of nauseating. Any advice?

The indigestion, I can't help you. I never had this problem.  Nauseating? Don't eat it if it is repulsive. Many people who eat processed foods for most of their lives probably have to get used to REAL food again.

The only tip I can give you is: add salt, peppers and herbs to all your foods. It makes (I hate Broccoli) actually taste great. If you don't it can be not good at all.  Also... Brown your meat, make it crispy by frying it in high heat.

This is kind of stabbing in the dark here, given the lack of info. So I hope you can do something with my tip.

LMKOhio I went through feeling nauseous before, during & after eating especially eggs.... I made tuna, garlic, fried onion, (Keto mayo for binding) patties patted with ground almonds on the outside fried & served on lettuce for about 10 days as my first meal of the day at lunch time 1pm ish and the break did the trick. I now can eat anything again. What makes your indigestion worse? Are you eliminating well?

Transitioning to a lot of fat made me nauseated once in awhile. Now I look at eating fat in a whole new way. You need to get a bit creative with recipes especially if your eating the same old same old all the time. That's when people jump off keto. Not knowing if your keto or low carb, remember, your brain is fighting you on this and may for some time. For me, it was mind over matter a lot of the weeks getting into this. I am keto, so finding whole fat sources is challlenging at times to break up the boring.  If you add some veg at the begining this may help. I add butter to everything I can possibly add it to now.  Gallbladder can resist this also I found out. Have to start slower sometimes with higher carb ratio. I found at first jumping in head first into keto probably wasn't the best for me but I pushed through it. Now, 18 pounds lighter and 15 to go I see the light at the end of the tunnel. Make sure your elimininatig well like the other poster said. Being backed up will make you feel like crud. Psyllium husk caplets during the day should help, and before these I took senacot daily. This was a gentle laxitive without the explosion. The monotony of daily fat and protein can make us say "ick" for awhile. You have to keep your prize at the end in mind. You will better in weeks to come if you follow what your supposed to do. Being on keto and pushing through the hard times I felt like crap, I'm so glad to have found this forum and I did a lot of research on the subject. I feel so much better now in all ways. Monotony of cooking something keto is now kicking my rear.

Thank you for all of the advice. As far as eliminating...things are fine there. I'm guessing it is a habit of eating the same foods. Perhaps getting creative is the key. I have two young girls so I have to find a way to balance my time in food prep and making sure I have things on hand at all times. I love veggies and I'm struggling a little on not being able to have high amounts (other than salads) because my carb count gets too high. I do use butter and fats to cook with. Like you said I may have to just push through.

I have been battling my weight forever. After my second child I did lose most of the baby fat in about two years. I went from 210 to180. Then starting last spring I really got into a good exercise habit and counted calories, it has toned me up and the weight started to shift to muscle and got down to 170. Then a mini vacation came and killed my motivation. I took a few months off of exercise-which I probably needed. So 9 days ago I decided I wanted to try Keto. I tried the similar-Atkins after Christmas last year and got the flu and that was that and just went back to calorie counting again which worked for a few months but then I just seemed stuck at a plateau ever since. That's my story in a nutshell. I am not so concerned my weight although I definitely have fat to lose, I'm 5'5 and would like to be closer to the 140-150's at least. I know measurements will change and things will shift. I enjoy exercising and do 30 min at least 5 days a week-a variety of HIIT, strength and cardio. So I think I know what I have to do...just mind over matter I guess.

Any other help is greatly appreciated. I'm going to research recipes and books as well!

I also have had times of just being *over* food but needing to eat (hunger vs appetite, I guess), and I found it especially bad because by the time I was done cooking, especially any meat, even the hunger was gone (and I was often nauseated) but I knew I had to eat.

I know prepackaged food is verboten for many ketoers, but I now rely heavily on packaged beef strips and chicken strips as well as canned tuna. They are more expensive than meat you cook yourself but I guess someone could do the same thing by cooking a bunch of meat up and freezing it in small portions.

One of my challenges is, like you, making sure my daughter is well fed. I hate to cook and I've always tended to one-dish meals heavy on rice (or other grains), beans and/or pasta (like jambalaya or pasta e fagioli). She's been very supportive and is old enough to fix some things for herself (lots of sandwiches) as I've started eating more meat than she's interested in and an unfortunately monotonous list of salad veggies (I don't like cruciferous vegetables cooked, just raw). But I want to be able to feed her more of her favorite foods and my time is limited so all-out cooking more than once every couple of days is difficult.

I've started trying to map a plan for some of our faves to be made in two stages. So chili  con carne made keto friendly, then add beans to a portion for the kid. Chicken and dumplings (one of her faves) but pull out my portion of the soup before adding dumplings to hers. I figure the base of pasta e fagioli will be good for me as a soup before adding the beans or pasta (lol...which would make the dish name just an unpronounced e). No  way to make her favorite, potato soup keto friendly but it's a quick recipe anyway  😀

As fat as getting enough fat--both to keep on the fat-burning train and just to feel sated--I struggle with this, more lately than I used to. I really dislike cream cheese and sour cream, so I've mostly fallen back on heavy whipping cream in coffee and in little dessert fat bombs. I'm lucky that I can tolerate sweeteners based on erythriol (so?) without a sweet craving being triggered (some can't) and I often end the day with a frozen whipped cream treat or two after dinner.

    Good luck
