Keto breath analyzer

Does any one here use a keto breath analyzer or a blood keytone testing kit?  It seems strips only works when you fist start from messages I have been seeing? Any thoughts on this subject would be appreciated.

Thanks

I test my blood keytones and my blood glucose daily.  The strips will tell you if you have started producing keytones, but won’t tell you how much. The blood test will.

I just ordered the KETOSCAN Mini breath analyzer. Don’t want to deal with pricking my fingers and the high cost of test strips. It has good reviews and seems to closely track blood tests when used properly so we shall see!

Got my KEYTOSCAN Mini breath analyzer yesterday. Could not believe my eyes when my first test registered 20ppm! Suspecting an error, two follow up tests yielded 19ppm and 20ppm. Anything over 10ppm indicates an optimal level of Ketosis. Tested again this morning, 30min after waking and got 30ppm which means I’m burning >0.25 oz fat per hour. Since my urine test strips showed only trace amounts of ketones I can only assume I jumped right into strong Ketosis early on making their results null and void. Love this breath meter! Quality built, easy to use and will be much cheaper in the long run.

  • I got a Keto Mojo Blood Glucose and Ketone testing system-- works great. The finger pricking doesn't hurt at all (from someone who has a very low pain threshold). This is the most accurate method of testing. Happy Ketoing!

I also have a Keto Mojo Blood Glucose and Ketone testing system. I'm also very happy with this tester. There testing strips  have some of the lowest prices on the internet.

I make no argument that blood test meters such as the Keto Mojo are the most reliable and accurate way to measure your level of Ketosis.  But the topic is about Breath Meters and my research showed the KETOSCAN mini to be the best available with accuracy comparable to blood testers. It allows me to test multiple times per day at a very low net cost and unlike others, repeated finger sticks DO bother me. If you can get by that and only want to test once per week or less, the blood testers are a good bet. But it’s nice to know there are valid alternatives out there.

For a good explanation about ketone measurement tools, including a few example brands, go to:

    1) YouTube and search for the video titled "Keto diet guide: How to measure your ketones properly" from Thomas DeLauer.

  • Plus one for the Keto Mojo blood testing unit. I started with the breath analyzer and loved it. I just wanted to get more in depth information on my GKI. I test before every meal.

Susan Thomas DeLauer does offer a wealth of keto and nutrition info which I have found very helpful. But I caution everyone to take his product recommendations with a grain of salt (Pink Himalayan, of course) as many of those outfits are big sponsors of his channel.

I’m the first to admit that urine tests are worthless after the first week or so and a good blood meter like Keto Mojo offers the most reliable and consistent measurements, but a *quality* breath meter like the KETOSCAN Mini offer a viable alternative and at a potentially lower long term cost especially if you like to test often. Thomas really needs to do an update of his year-old “How to test” video including an honest review of modern breath analyzers. Technology marches on! :)
